Gore Vidal Lists His Hollywood Hills Home

Back in 2005, we mentioned that Gore Vidal's Italian retreat La Rondinaia is up for sale. It eventually sold for a reported $17.87 million and now can be rented out as a luxury vacation retreat. That probably won't be the fate of Vidal's Los Angeles home which recently hit the market for $3.495 million. The Real Estalker reports that Vidal bought his home in the Hollywood Hills way back in 1977 for just $149,500. The five-bedroom home is on nearly half an acre. The main house is a Mediterranean style home with four bedrooms. The property includes a pool and a one-bedroom guest house. The home is crammed full of the author's treasures including overstuffed furniture, objets d'art and plenty of books. The home has rustic carved wood beamed ceilings, wide-planked floors and a living room with a carved stone fireplace. The bibliophile's delight includes a library, bookshelf lined office, music room, and a meditation room.

Frankie Muniz Re-Lists His Hollywood Hills Home

When actor Frankie Muniz was still a teen television star he bought and sold quite a bit of property around Los Angeles. That all slowed down with the end of his television show "Malcolm in the Middle." In 2005 he bought this home for $3.499 million and in 2007 he put it on the market for $3.875 million.

The LA Times reports that the home is back on the market. Muniz has been renting it out in recent years and new listing pictures show that it's missing the artwork and young-star-glam look it had back in 2007. Muniz meanwhile has turned his attention for acting to race car driving and playing drums with the band You Hang Up.

The traditional-style 1941 home and has five bedrooms total including a master bedroom that has skylights, walk-in closets and a bath with an infinity tub. The home is on a small plot of land but has a pool, spa, outdoor dining area and a charming outdoor fireplace. The home is now listed at $3.195 million.

Orlando Bloom Lists Hollywood Hills Home For Lease

orlando bloomAs Orlando Bloom prepares for the arrival of his new baby with Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr it seems that they won't be welcoming the new child in his Hollywood Hills home. The LA Times reports that Bloom bought in 2007 for $2.75 million and now the home, which is in a gated Hollywood Hills community, is listed for lease at $18,000 a month.

The four-bedroom house has more than 3,200 square feet of living space on a lot of three-quarters of an acre that includes a pool, pro swim machine and spa and a large motor court. Walnut doors open into the one-story home. Listing pictures mostly show the outside spaces including the grounds and the home's black exterior but the kitchen which the listing dubs "unique & so hip" has a fireplace. This is the home that was robbed back in 2009 when thieves made off with a reported $500,000 in goods. Bloom was not home at the time. Perhaps Blooms is in the mood for a little more privacy. Recently photographers dogged him as he went was riding his motorcycle in the Hollywood Hills, provoking him to get in a photographer's face. The listing for the home is with Venessa Blair of Coldwell Banker, Beverly Hills East office.

Now amidst rumors that Reese Witherspoon may have bought a new home in Brentwood, Phillippe has put his Hollywood Hills home on the market (we had also seen an earlier report that it was sold for $7.2 million but it appears to be active on the MLS). The home includes a large master suite with wide windows offering a panoramic view. Phillippe, known for his fit physique, has installed a state-of-the-art two story gym off the master suite. adam brodyFormer teen star Adam Brody is the latest celebrity to list at a loss in Los Angeles. The Real Estalker reports that Brody bought his home from Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst back in 2006 for $2.225 million.

He is listing the three-bedroom home in the Hollywood Hills for $1.99 million. The 1916 traditional home has been restored keeping the period floors (updated with a deep chocolate stain), windows and moldings. The listing promises that the house is perennially popular and never stays on the market for long. The home property is edged by hedges and has a pool, spa, dog run, a grassy yard, a garden swing and a detached garage, giving it a peaceful feel. There are two master suites with views, a sunroom, breakfast room, den and a bright white eat-in kitchen with marble counter tops and stainless steel appliances. Ryan Seacrest On The Move In Los Angeles?

The Real Estalker broke the news that Ryan Seacrest has listed his Hollywood Hills home with an asking price of $14.95 million. Seacrest bought the home in the Nichols Canyon area in 2006 for $11.5 million from Kevin Costner. He made some renovations and the home appeared in Architectural Digest in January 2008 with a smiling Seacrest showing off his trophy home. Gawker has the photo shoot images.

The Mediterranean-style mansion was originally built in 1974 and has six bedrooms according to the listing. Seacrest calls the home Casa di Pace (House of Peace) and hired interior designer Jeff Andrews to do over the home. Andrews has additional images of the home on his website. The home has the sedate and luxurious look of a boutique hotel. So far I haven't been able to track down the official listing but the hunt is on.

Esquire's Ultimate Bachelor Pad Listed at $18.9 million

Each year since 2003, Esquire Magazine has taken a house and turned it into a design showcase. They call it their "Ultimate Bachelor Pad" but it really does serve a higher purpose: The remodeled space is used to host some of the season's biggest charity and celebrity events. And the house for sale winds up getting a lot of terrific exposure.

This year's house is located in the Doheny Estates in the storied Hollywood Hills. The 9,000-square-foot house was completely rebuilt from the ground up and newly outfitted by top designers. What was once a family home was transformed into a contemporary indoor-outdoor lifestyle property for Esquire under the watchful design eye of Elaine Culotti of Porta Bella.

It has 11 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, an infinity pool, two-story pool house, hot tub and gym. The home was given a $500,000 music studio complete with state-of-the-art recording equipment, a one-of-a-kind flight simulator costing $200,000 that responds to body movements (created by Luxurious Animals), and an interactive 65-inch multi-touch video wall from Obscura Digital featuring Hard Rock memorabilia. The world premiere of the Esquire House is Oct. 15 with a benefit for the International Medical Corps, a global humanitarian relief organization. The event will be hosted by Sienna Miller, Jude Law and Felicity Huffman. Other fundraisers scheduled for the Esquire House include ones by OXFAM, City of Hope and Oceana. Minnie Driver, Emile Hirsch, Colin Firth and Mark Ruffalo are among the spotlighted celebrities expected to be in attendance. All events are by invitation only and attract a mix of celebrities, high-profile philanthropists and Esquire clients. For those not invited in, there's always the Facebook page. For the first time this year, there will be a cable TV show on the re-making of the Esquire House. The DIY Network has scheduled it to air in January, hosted by Amy Matthews, host of various DIY Network shows. This is the fourth property Esquire has created in Los Angeles. The concept began in 2003 and has since alternated between New York and Los Angeles. The original property remodeled was the Esquire Apartment at the Trump World Tower.

Some of the top designers who contributed to this year's project include Mark Cutler, who did the study; Annette English who designed the master bedroom; Lonni Paul on the gym; and Ron Boren did the landscaping.

Mauricio Umansky of Hilton & Hyland in Beverly Hills is the listing agent for the property.

The Classicist: Movie Star Style at the Beverly Wilshire's New $25,000-Per-Night Penthouse

Filed under: Decor, Luxury Travel & Hotels, The Classicist, Architecture & Design

Following a recently completed $40 million facelift, Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel has just unveiled its newly renovated Penthouse and Presidential Suite for the ultimate in movie star style. The Penthouse, beginning at $25,000 per night, is the largest hotel suite in Los Angeles and now one of the world's most expensive as well. L.A.-based architectural firm Barry Design Associates transformed the historic suites into modern, sophisticated spaces. They even throw in a Porsche. The Beverly Wilshire is a true piece of Hollywood history; the Italian Renaissance-style stone and marble building was completed in 1928 when the city had fewer than 18,000 residents, and its grand suites have played host to many of movieland's most famous faces over the decades.

The three-bedroom Penthouse offers guests 5,000 square feet of space. Positioned on the private top floor of the hotel's Beverly Wing it features floor-to-ceiling windows, high ceilings and a wrap around balcony with sweeping views of downtown L.A. and the Hollywood Hills. An entry way welcomes guests with marble mosaic flooring and Swarovski crystal chandeliers, while a dining room offers seating for 12 people adjacent to a state-of-the-art designer kitchen with Michelangelo marble countertops and Miele appliances. The elegant master bedroom is highlighted by an antique mirror and silver leaf detailed bed frame along with huge walk-in closet finished in stained oak. The master bath is fitted with glass tiles, exotic stones, a marble soaking tub, dual steam and rain shower contains a light and music system. There's also a media room for private screenings of your latest blockbuster.

The two-bedroom Presidential Suite offers 4,000 square feet of space, entered through a spectacular grand foyer (above) with Corinthian columns and intricate crown molding designed when the Hotel first opened over 80 years ago. Located on the eighth floor of the hotel's original Wilshire Wing, it features sweeping views of the Hollywood Hills and has been graced by numerous celebrities, legends and dignitaries over the years. The suite comes complete with its own living room and library as well, while the master bath is fitted with a soaking tub, steam shower for two and integrated televisions in the mirrors above the black lacquer vanity counters. El Contento, Estate of the Day

The LA Times Hot Property column brought my attention to this home, owned by guitarist Nicky Panicci. Panicci has a lovely renovated three-bedroom home in the Hollywood Hills. The home was built in 1962 and has large walls of glass that showcase the canyon and city views. The decks offer a great place to hang out. The home is fairly small (around 2,000 square feet) and on a small lot but it has a lot of charm. The three-story house includes a spiral staircase and the master bedroom suite has a separate entrance. The A-frame home has dark beams and a modernist feel. The upstairs has a view loft that also serves as a third bedroom. Take Sunset has pictures that show the flat grassy yard with circular stone patios, terraces and decks. This home is listed at $899,000.

Max Weinberg in the Hollywood Hills, Estate of the Day

Drummer Max Weinberg (he was part of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and was the bandleader on the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien) and his wife Rebecca are serial house flippers. The Real Estalker recently reported that their latest shot at a quick real estate gain is a contemporary home in Hollywood Hills. The pair bought the home in 2009 from director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Forner, the parents of Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal. They put the home on the market in 2008 for $4.2 million but after a few price cuts it later sold to the Weinbergs for $2.88 million.

The charming home on the famously twisty Mulholland Drive is at the end of a long private driveway and sits on nearly an acre. The five-bedroom home was built in 1953 and has great mid-century modern lines with walls of glass, an open floor plan and a sharp, angular appeal. The kitchen has stainless counters and Miele appliances and flows into the large living room with 14' ceilings and fireplace. The master bathroom has dual custom-poured concrete vanities and wood floors. The property also has a two-bedroom guest house and a swimming pool with views of the Los Angeles skyline. One of the Real Estalker's commenters toured the home and dished on it, including the fact that the master bath serves as the home's public powder room and that the bedrooms are fairly small. This home is now listed at $3.399 million.

Adam Carolla in The Hollywood Hills, Estate of the Day

Adam Carolla, host of the show that bears his name, has listed one of his three Los Angeles-area homes for sale. No, not the one he lives in -- which sits high up in the Hollywood Hills and was recently full remodeled and renovated. And no, not his Malibu place. But one that he owns in Beachwood Canyon that he used to live in before be became rich and famous and which, by the way, he personally renovated in 1996 -- personally renovated as in holding a hammer in his hand.

Says Carolla: "Totally rebuilt, piece by piece, like a restoration of an old car with modern equipment." Vroom, vroom.

Asking price: $1,395,000.

The three-bedroom home with 2,281 square feet has views of the Hollywood sign and downtown Los Angeles. Carolla is only the second owner since 1944 of this home, which is located on one of Beachwood Canyon's premier streets. Carolla installed new HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) systems, retrofitted and bolted the home to the foundation to meet earthquake standards, installed a new kitchen with Viking and Sub-Zero appliances, added a new slate roof, hardwood floors, a security system and a hot tub; he also changed out the electrical and plumbing systems. Whew. When did he have time to work?

The gated property sits on a promontory point and has city lights and canyon views. There is a step-down living room with a wood-burning fireplace and bar. The family room has a second fireplace and a built-in entertainment center. There are flat lawns, an outdoor patio and water features. There is a walk street stairway nearby that accesses markets and restaurants.

Karen Misraje of Teles Properties has the listing.

Steven Cojocaru Above the Sunset Strip, Estate of the Day

steven cojocaruThe Real Estalker alerted us to the fact that fashion critic Steven Cojocaru has listed his Hollywood Hills home. Cojocaru, a former fashion editor for People Magazine and currently a fashion correspondent for a variety of outlets was famously fired from the Today Show weeks after he underwent kidney surgery in 2005. He ended up having two kidney transplants and later wrote a book, " Glamour, Interrupted" about the experience.

He bought today's home in 2007 paying $3.8 million according to records on Property Shark. The butterfly-roofed home is a mid-century modern built in 1955. It is 3,850 square feet and has three bedrooms. The California cool home includes a screening room and wet bar and an office. Pitched roof ceilings and sliding glass doors contribute to an expansive sense of space. The home is calmly and tastefully decorated with neutral simple furniture that suits the era of the house. One cute note is Steve McQueen's mug shot hanging in the bathroom. One bedroom has a sliding glass door and an orb fireplace, another also opens directly to the patio. The bathrooms are modernized with features like an egg-shaped bath tub and long raised sinks. The small lot includes an infinity pool and modest yard. This home is listed with Judy Feder of Nourmand & Associates, Beverly Hills for $3.95 million or can be rented for $20,000 a month. The property website by Val Riolo is here.

Katey Sagal In The Hollywood Hills, Estate of the Day

The former Mrs. Bundy lives quite well indeed. The Wall Street Journal's Private Properties column led me to the lovely Hollywood Hills home of actress Katey Sagal and her husband writer-actor Kurt Sutter. Sagal is best known as the Peggy Bundy on the sitcom "Married With Children" although a whole new group of people have fallen in love with her for her turn on "Sons of Anarchy."

The couple bought this home in 2005 and spent $1 million renovating and adding the basketball court. The property includes an infinity pool with a view and a guest house with a studio, office and gym. The main four-bedroom home was built in 1937 and has a charming country style enlivened with some very colorful art. The blue and white tiled kitchen complete with fireplace is particularly cute and adds to the home's casual appeal. This home is listed at $4.975 million.

The Treehouse, Estate of the Day

Today's home has quite a bit of celebrity provenance. The two-bedroom home in the Hollywood Hills was once part of Ellen DeGeneres's extensive real estate portfolio. Later it was owned by Heath Ledger. Leder's estate put the home on the market last year and it sold for $2.5 million. Now it's up for sale once again for $3.695 million.

This beautiful home does have a treehouse feel because it is surrounded by trees. It has a large deck with outdoor screening room, grill and fire pit. The post-and-beam home was built in 1951 and over 2,000 square feet of space. The bathrooms and kitchens have had a modern renovation but the brick fireplace, beamed ceilings and decks give the home a retro appeal. Check out more gorgeous images at the property website shot by Everett Fenton Gidley.

Reggie Bush In the Hollywood Hills, Estate of the Day

Filed under: Estates, Celebrity Shopping, Sports

I'm not up to date on the on again and off again relationship between Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush but it is significant that the curvy reality television star put her home on the market a few weeks ago and now Bush, a New Orleans Saints football player has listed his Hollywood Hills home. I also suspect these two might have had the same decorator. Either that or Kardashian had a major influence on the decor of Bush's tri-level home on a cul-de-sac overlooking the city.

The four-bedroom home has views all the way to the ocean with a glittering swath of city spread out below. It is filled with touches that seem Kardashian inspired including zebra print cushions in the living room and a master suite with an apricot-colored padded headboard. Masculine touches reassert themselves in sports jerseys mounted on the staircase, a pool table on one of the home's many terraces and a wonderful walk-in gentleman's closet. This home has one of the most makeout friendly home theaters I've ever seen. It's decked out in black and red velvet. The football star also seems to have a love of his own monogram, his initials appear throughout the house including in the velvety red elevator. This home is listed at $5.099 million. According to the LA Times Hot Property, Bush bought the home for $4.7 million in 2007 for use as his off-season home.

The main home of the Jenner- Kardashian clan also remains on the market. It was originally listed at $3.395 million but is now listed at $2.995 million.
