Old Lion Manor's Deep Price Cut

I was browsing through the MLS listings when I saw some old familiar pictures and a new low price that made me do a double take. Old Lion Manor, a Hidden Hills, California estate once owned by "The Exorcist" author William Peter Blatty hit the block last year at a hefty price of $27.5 million. Old Lion Manor is a three acre playground that includes a waterfall with a cave, statuary, a theater with seating for 28, a spa with a massage room, wine cellar with a tasting area and more. The facilities include a tennis court, volleyball court, equestrian ring and stables and a chessboard with life-size pieces. There is even a mechanical bull. The house has been rented out for parties (numerous photos of the pool stuffed with people can be found online) and the interior has a bit of a theme park feel with elaborate murals and heavy furniture but it is a pretty amazing spread. How low did it go? This home is now listed at $8.65 million. Think it will find a buyer now?

Sinbad's Home Listed In Bankruptcy Fallout

The comedian Sinbad, who has been in the news for his financial failings recently, is giving up his luxury home. In December, we picked up on a story our sister blog Walletpop wrote about the comedian Sinbad who had filed for bankruptcy after the IRS filed $8.15 million in tax liens. His Chapter 7 bankruptcy claim listed $10 million and $50 million in liabilities but less than $50,000 in assets even though he had a $1.5 million home in the celebrity-friendly enclave of Hidden Hills. The home was reporedly owned by his brother, Michael Adkins. But court documents seeking seizure of the house alleged that the arrangement was a sham pointing out that Michael Adkins works for his brother's production company and that the expenses for the property including mortgage payments were paid from the production company account.

Now the LA Times Hot Property column reports that the home has hit the market for $3 million. The home was bought in 2007 for $1.5 million. The five-bedroom home sits on 2.4 acres that include a guest house, recording studio, pool and a barn. Listing pictures show a home with plenty of space but the look of a place that has not been happily inhabited for a while. The property website from Teles Properties is here.

Jim Bridger Road, Estate of the Day

Today's estate has an interesting celebrity tie-in. This home in a gated community in Hidden Hills, California was used by John Mayer to record his Battle Studies album. Nicki and Karen of Ewing & Associates Sotheby's International Realty who have the listing say that John experimented with recording in different locations within the home to capture the exact sounds he wanted for the album. Videos filmed at the house and available on YouTube show John bent over the piano in the foyer near the sweeping double staircase.

Back in February there were rumors that John Mayer had spent $10 million on a house when he was really leasing this one. The seven-bedroom home has over 11,000 square feet of space on 1.36 acres. The foyer has a gilded domed ceiling with an imported crystal chandelier. The large family room adjoins s kitchen with two center islands, walk in pantry and stainless steel appliances. A large home theater has soft sound absorbing padded walls. The master suite includes a sitting area, fireplace and private balcony. The best part of this home might be the outdoor space which includes a beach entry rock waterfall pool and spa, a barbecue center and expansive gardens. This home is listed at $5.995 million.

Old Lion Manor, Estate of the Day

As the LA Times Hot Property column mentions, today's estate once belonged to "The Exorcist" author William Peter Blatty but that's not really what makes this Hidden Hills, California mansion so extraordinary. Denise Richards in Hidden Hills, Estate of the Day

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that Denise Richards had put her latest Hidden Hills home on the market but now the LA Times' Ann Brenoff has unearthed the property website so this is definitely worth a closer look. The New-England-style retreat is definitely an upgrade from the last time we featured a home of hers as estate of the day. The five-bedroom home has a gourmet kitchen, dining room, large living room and a sitting room in the master suite all done up in a Pamela Anderson style Shabby Chic decor. Richards has listed the house for $4.25 million which is around $100,000 less than she paid for it.
