Hello Kitty iPhone Covers Restocked for Valentine's Day

Hello Kitty by Simmons Jewelry Co. Crystal iPhone Case (3G/3GS)
You may remember our recent Hello Kitty coverage for the holidays (see Hello Kitty Says Hello Holidays for a fabulous USB drive and more). Back then, Zales was all sold out of their exclusive Hello Kitty iPhone covers (above), but they have restocked for Valentine's Day.

The Hello Kitty by Simmons Jewelry Co. Crystal iPhone Case (3G/3GS) is covered in pink, white, red, black and saffron-colored crystals and carefully crafted to accommodate all the important buttons and ports. This glitzy, look-at-me accessory costs $195 and is the perfect gift for the girliest girl you know. The crystals actually make the iPhone easier to grip -- and harder to lose.

If you're concerned about the sparkles losing their ... sparkle, it's a good idea to include crystal cleaning supplies like the Swarovski Crystal Cleaning Kit ($40 from Always-Forever.com).

Hello Kitty Says Hello Holidays

Hello Kitty flash driveIt just keeps getting better. We've been covering the various luxe Hello Kitty collections over the past few years with delight and wonder -- this year Hello Kitty is even sparklier and more fabulous than before.

Simmons Jewelry Company's Hello Kitty collection (available from Zales) now includes more than just jewelry -- how about a pink crystal studded Hello Kitty compact, or even a 2GB USB flash drive (right, $125.00)? We love the cute rubber watches and the glittering, multicolored sapphires, tourmalines and rubies in the current collection, as well as the "big rock" pendants and rings created by Kimora Lee Simmons for Hello Kitty's 35th Anniversary (available from Neiman Marcus).

Hello Kitty Celebrates Turning 35 with Bling

Filed under: Handbags, Art, Charity, Children

Hello Kitty is one of those unique brands that never seems to go out of style and manages to appeal just as much to 3 year olds and 13 year olds as it does to the 30 year old set. One way it stays hip and popular is pairing cute with sophistication, a combination that seems irresistible to fans. To celebrate the brand's 35th birthday this year Sanrio is putting out something for everyone; the young, the young at heart and those who view Hello Kitty as art.

For those in the teen or tween set there is the sparkly Hello Kitty music player. This electronic gadget is decorated with 300 Swarovski crystal elements and shaped in the traditional Hello Kitty face. A second option is the Limited Edition pendant set. Again this is a collaboration between the D. Swarovski Co. of Wattens, Austria and features five crystal studded pendants each accented with a different color to match your mood or your outfit. Although at a price of $6,000 for the set I'm not sure that this jewelry collection isn't more appropriate for some of the slightly more mature Hello Kitty fans.

Another collaboration launched to celebrate the 35th Anniversary is a Judith Leiber bag collection. The line includes a "Retro Kitty" curved oval clutch, the "Pink Tulip" airstream, new "Hobo" style with silver handle shown above which will retail for $3995. These items are definitely a nod to those customers who have been fans of the Hello Kitty brand since its inception 35 years ago.

For those more artistically inclined there is the Three Apples art exhibit in Los Angeles, California curated by Jamie Rivadeneira the owner of Japan L.A. at the Royal/T space. The event is free of charge and over 80 artists display their Hello Kitty inspired pieces through November 15, 2009. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the art will benefit Sanrio's charitable partner LA Works a non-profit organization that promotes community volunteerism.

Russell Simmons Gave Me a SpongeBob SquarePants Alarm Clock Radio

He lives in a Swarovski crystal studded pineapple under the sea.Russell Simmons gave me a SpongeBob SquarePants alarm clock radio. No, I did not dream this.

I was recently at an event for Simmons Jewelry Company when who should walk in but Russell Simmons himself, wearing a glimmering SpongeBob SquarePants pendant! He was very cordial and said I looked familiar. I said he looked familiar, too. He said "I'm Russell Simmons."

The event was to celebrate and exhibit the new Simmons Jewelry Co. collections that will be coming out this fall and for the holidays, and there is a whole line of luxury SpongeBob SquarePants jewelry for men and women.

"Why SpongeBob?" I asked Russell. His answer was simple: "SpongeBob is the Hello Kitty for men."

Genius! As you may know, Kimora Lee Simmons of the Simmons family has had a line of Hello Kitty jewelry for quite awhile now (you can read Rigel's article about the Zodiac collection here) -- and even designed the $50,000 Hello Kitty necklace Britney Spears wore in her music video for "Do Somethin'." There's a lot of great new Hello Kitty stuff coming this fall, too -- including Swarovski crystal studded earbuds and a USB drive I've got my eye on.

For now, let's have a look at the SpongeBob and Bikini Bottom items, which come in sterling silver, 18kt gold plating, enamel work and Swarovski crystals (as shown). Who knows? Maybe they'll make a $50,000 one for Justin Timberlake!

As for the alarm clock radio in the gift bag? I gave it to my landlord's kids.

Hello Kitty as 'Zodiac Kitty'

People just can't seem to get enough of Hello Kitty, and although she's a cutie I really don't understand what all the fuss is about. Even fine jewelers like Simmons is jumping on the bandwagon with Kimora Lee Simmons' Hello Kitty collections include Simple Kitty, Princess Kitty, Glam Kitty, and (my favorite) Zodiac Kitty. I'm not even into astrology at all but think it's interesting to see how she Hello Kitty fit into the signs of zodiac, like having a bull suit for the Taurus kitty and making Pisces a pair of little mermaids (mercats?). $700-$980

Gold Hello Kitty Playing Cards

What better way to celebrate the birth of a feline icon than to dress her up like royalty and showcase her cuteness on a deck of solid gold playing cards? That's what Japanese company Sanrio has done with their 54-card deck of 99.99 percent gold cards. Each card measures 58 x 89 mm and features Kitty herself on the royal face cards. Contrary to popular belief, Hello Kitty was born in London, not Japan. To honor her birthplace, the flip side of the card features her posing proudly with a Union Jack in the shape of an apple. $4900.

Designed and created specifically for a special sales event in a department store in Tokyo, it will be available for sale later this month for $31,660.
