Killy, Luxe Ski Wear from a Stylish Olympic Champion
Jean-Claude Killy won all three ski events at the 1968 Winter Olympics, worked as a stuntman in James Bond films, appeared in Rolex ads, raced sports cars and was tapped as one of GQ's 50 most stylish men of the last 50 years. Until now we didn't know that he also has an eponymous line of luxe ski wear. Born in the French Alps, elegance, comfort and performance are the key focuses of the Killy brand. French designers, cutting edge fabrics, sporty laser cuts and color hits adorn what are otherwise very practical weatherproof garments for both men and women. The quality and style of each Killy ski piece is designed to "embody the exacting demands and spirit of Killy, the man himself." Recently merged with the leading French outdoor group Lafuma, which also owns the famed Le Chameau boot brand, look for Killy to make even more of an impression in the future.

Citroen teams up with British GQ for a Special Concept Car

citroen concept car

In case the array of new debuts which Citroen brought to the Geneva Motor Show weren't enough of an indication, the French automaker has emerged as a real draw with its concept cars. Now Citroen has partnered with no less prestigious a publication that the British edition of the men's magazine GQ for another unique show car.

Called, simply enough, the GQbyCitroen, the concept car is a joint effort between the magazine's editor and the automaker's design director. Considerably more "gentlemanly" than the extreme GTbyCitroen and classier than the more recent Survolt concept, the GQ concept features a hybrid drivetrain and an interior outfitted by Savile Row tailor E. Tautz. Very GQ indeed, even if it is just a concept car, and you can have a closer look in this month's issue or click through our gallery of images below.

The World's Best Men's Store - in a Cleveland Suburb

Over at GQ.com the sartorially astute Michael Williams has cast his vote for the world's best men's store - Cuffs Clothing (above) in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. "It's a real men's shop in the traditional sense," he writes, "a holdover from the days before mass market chains dominated the landscape, days back when a man only needed to go to one place to rig himself out for the year." In addition to the classic wardrobe staples and everything from pajamas to dinner jackets and a wide range of custom tailoring options, their stately brick premises house a wine shop, bar, gallery and extensive range of goods from Hermès. The Sartorialist: The Book

Filed under: Apparel, Books, Men's Style

Scott Schuman, who worked in the fashion industry for 15 years before starting his now famous blog, The Sartorialist, and landing a column in GQ, has come out with a book of his stunning street portraits that's a must for any student of modern style.

The Sartorialist the book is a 500-page collection of Schuman's favorite photographs from around the world - "from the quiet dignity of a man with silk handkerchief carefully popping out of his jacket pocket, to the pride of a young woman who fashioned her father's shirt into a skirt, from the lightness of a diaphanous dress to the unexpected flash of neon under muted tones."

The Sartorialist captures the "inspirational aspect of people styling themselves in ingenious, playful, creative, unpredictable and distinctive ways," be they models, regular joes, fashion editors, or in a couple instances, children. Schuman sees inspiration in everything, be it gorgeous, garish, or just plain weird, as long as it's done with flair.

There are two versions of the book being published later this month: a $25 paperback (above) and a $175 "bespoke" limited edition hardcover. The Sartorialist was picked by Time magazine as one of the Top 100 design influencers, and has been lauded by the New York Times as "the bellwether American site that turned photoblogging into an art form."

Since our last post about nude photos of Brazilian bombshell Gisele Bundchen was such a hit, we thought we'd give you an exclusive preview of some new ones from the July issue of GQ hitting stands next week. The saucy snaps, by fashion photog duo Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, accompany a cover story on the world's richest and most beautiful supermodel. In the article Gisele discusses money - she reportedly earned $35 million last year; her football star boyfriend Tom Brady - he still hasn't proposed; and the no-nonsense attitude she takes vis-à-vis the fashion business - "When you are out there with the wolves, you gotta play with the wolves," she says. You can also watch a video of the shoot here.

GQ Asks: "Is It Worth It?"

Filed under: Gadgets, Luxury Cars & Autos, Wine, Men's Style

In the May issue of GQ hitting stands this week, the magazine gets its hands on twelve of the most expensive items of their kind on Earth to evaluate whether they're really worth the price. From the $5,980 Toto Neorest 600 toilet to the $1.5 million Bugatti Veyron, they try to determine the difference between comically overpriced and extremely valuable.

If you have the money, the magazine says, some things are indisputably worth every penny. The Toto toilet for one, as well as the $64,950 Hastens Vividus bed, a $148,000 pair of ugly but awesome Wilson Audio speakers, and, yes, the Veyron.

Things that are more hype than merit, however, include $6,500 Cheval Blanc wine, $600 java made from the excrement of a coffee bean-eating Indonesian civet cat, the $30,000-per-night Ty Warner Suite at the Four Seasons in Manhattan, and $160 Kobe beef rib eye steak. According to author Benjamin Wallace, "I've had $18 bar steaks that gave me more pleasure." We're willing to take his word for it.
