Vacation Like a Vanderbilt at Revamped Fisher Island Resort

Exclusive Fisher Island off the coast of Miami, where the likes of André Agassi, Ricky Martin, Julia Roberts and Oprah Winfrey have houses, is frequently named as the country's most expensive zip code. Now even if you can't afford a chunk of the island's prime real estate you can still vacation like a mogul at the newly revamped Fisher Island Club. The historic Vanderbilt Mansion there (above), centerpiece of the Fisher Island Hotel & Resort, has just been restored to its original glory as part of a $60 million island-wide restoration project. The Mediterranean-style mansion, built by William K. Vanderbilt II in 1925, crowns the 216-acre property housing a luxuriously-appointed 45-room boutique hotel. Other luxe amenities include a brand new private beach club and revamped 9-hole professional golf course, tennis center and marina.

The New Most Expensive Zip Codes in America

Forbes has just released its annual ranking of the 100 most expensive zip codes in America, and what with fluctuating real estate markets some of the results may surprise you. Beverly Hills for example, the famous 90210, barely makes it into the top 10 nowadays with a median home price of $2.41 million, while Bel Air (90077) lags way back at No. 29 with a median price of $1.72 million. New York City doesn't rate an appearance at all until Tribeca zip 10013 clocks in at No. 14 with a median price of $2.2 million.

That famous province of the rich, Greenwich, Conn. (zip 06870 in Old Greenwich) is way down at No. 26 with a median price of $1.75 million. The most expensive zip code in the country? 33109, the tiny private enclave of Miami Beach known as Fisher Island (above), where sales prices rose by $525,000 over the last year and which has an unbeatable median price of $3.85 million. You don't necessarily have to have the top penthouse to have the ultimate in luxury. This "lower" penthouse on Fisher Island Drive in Miami has some of the most striking interior design I've seen in Miami. The four-bedroom penthouse is over 8,000 square feet. The interior design by Lorraine Letendre is a pleasing mix of spare and luxe combining contemporary art and a neutral palette with details like French Oak wood cabinetry and goat skin paneled doors. This home has the most amazing man's closet I've ever seen. There is also a large balcony to take in the ocean views. This home is listed at $13.9 million.
