Immortalize DNA, a Fingerprint, or a Kiss for Valentine's Day

From the same people who brought us the gorgeous Kiss Portraits, DNA11 also makes portraits of DNA (above) and fingerprints. These too make great Valentine's Day gifts, just in a less overt way than the Kiss Portraits.

Putting your loved ones' fingerprints or DNA on your wall or desk not only shows you love them, but that you value their uniqueness and want to know every part of them. It makes them feel special.

DNA11 sends you a lip-print kit with a M.A.C. Viva Glam lipstick (which happens to be a great color), a fingerprint kit, or a DNA kit to make the print. Don't worry, DNA extraction is not scary; you just have to swab the inside of your cheek.

The DNA11 portraits are available in wall sizes or desk/shelf sizes, which we really love. The mini portraits start at $169. The Fingerprint Portraits start at $190 and come in three different sizes. Hotel Doors Go High-Tech

In the near future you may get to feel like you're in a Mission Impossible movie as you check into your hotel room by first providing a fingerprint and then standing still while a camera scans your iris. High-end hotels are forever seeking the next great thing when it comes to providing their customers with the best service and security, not to mention they're also always looking for new ways to save money and be more environmentally friendly in the process. The commonly used plastic key cards are on their way out in favor new options like paper cards, cell phone frequency identification, fingerprints, and iris scans.

It will be many years before any of these new features are widely available but many hotels are already trying out (or are in the slow process of switching exclusively to) these new high-tech methods, some of which are a little controversial (i.e. privacy is a concern when handing over fingerprints). The Detail.MGX Pendant Light

Now here's a lamp that truly can't be copied or created by any other artist -- it's literally got designer Dan Yeffet's fingerprints all over it. In an endeavor to create something that represented privacy (or a lack of) he took his own fingerprint and stretched it over a sphere shape, resulting in a truly unique pattern of light shining out from between the channels.

At first I wasn't that crazy about this design because it looked like zebra stripes and I'm not one for animal prints. But once I realized it's fingerprints I like it a lot more! Funny how that works. The Detail.MGX pendant light measures 24cm wide (the sphere) and is available from Within 4 Walls for £1948.

DNA11 Fingerprint Art

From the identity-obsessed artsy crowd over at DNA11 comes their latest idea. Fingerprints as art. We've seen this before in other places, fingerprints as sculpture, jewelry or on a diamond-laden watch but DNA11 brings a pop art look to the proceedings with Giclee prints of your fingerprint in a choice of vibrant colors. The big 40" x 40" print on canvas sells for $490. Consider it understated narcissism (a bit more subtle than having large black and white pictures of yourself around the house as art).
