Ferraris, Bentleys, Astons and More at Gooding's Amelia Island Sale

Back in December my colleague Noah Joseph previewed some of the notable early consignments at Gooding & Company's Amelia Island sale. Now with the auction date of March 11 looming we have details on starring lots added in the interim. Recent additions to the stunning lineup include an extraordinary "barn find" 1955 Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback with coachwork by H.J. Mulliner; a highly-original and unrestored 1961 Aston Martin DB4 Series IV; and a 1962 AC Cobra. They join other incredible offerings including a 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV Prototype, a 1963 Lotus 23B and a 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso (above).

"A true connoisseur's car, the Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback has a place in the world's finest collections," says David Gooding, President and founder. "This recently-discovered, two-owner R-Type is the ultimate collector's Bentley for its role in luxury motoring history and sophisticated performance specification." Gooding have not released estimates for the Bentley or Miura, but expect the bidding to be fierce. Meanwhile the Aston Martin's estimate is $425,000 - $475,000; the AC Cobra $450,000 - $550,000; the Lotus $175,000 - $225,000; and the Ferrari 250 GT Lusso $600,000 - $750,000.

A Look Inside Ralph Lauren's Billion-Dollar Garage

We've written before about the automotive treasures in Ralph Lauren's car collection; now Vanity Fair has gotten an inside look at the lavish garage / gallery the designer recently built near his posh Westchester, NY estate to house them. Lauren transformed a former car dealership's storage facility into a shrine to the best in automotive design, with rooms dedicated to famous marques; the Ferrari room is pictured above, with a rare 1958 Testa Rossa taking center stage. The 60-plus ultra-valuable vehicles are all kept registered and ready to drive anytime the designer feels like going for a spin.

The eye-popping collection includes a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic worth an estimated $40 million alone – the world's most expensive car – a 1934 Bugatti Type 59 Grand Prix, a 1938 Alfa Romeo Mille Miglia roadster, the world's only 1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK "Count Trossi" roadster, a 1957 Jaguar XKSS, a McLaren F1, a 1929 "Blower" Bentley, a Ferrari 250 GT, and the only Lamborghini Reventon Roadster in the U.S. All have been maintained carefully since new, or restored to perfection – and "sometimes beyond perfection," the magazine notes, as some have been painted in colors that the billionaire decided were better than the originals.

Gooding Brings the Sumptuous Italian Classics to Pebble Beach

This year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is shaping up as one for the record books, and for evidence look no further than Gooding & Company. The venerable auction house is bringing out a positively lust-worthy array of classic machinery for the Monterey event.

We've already brought you news of the Marx Brothers' 1927 Mercedes Boattail Speedster and the '56 Maserati 200 SI and '51 Ferrari 340 American announced along with it. Now Gooding has announced a whole slew of vintage Italian stallions heading with them to the auction block at Pebble Beach.

A Zagato-bodied 1954 Fiat 8V, a 1971 Lamborghini Miura S and an alloy-bodied 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione will be on consignment at the event, along with the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta SEFAC Hot Rod and 1955 Maserati A6G/54 Zagato pictured in the galleries below, ensuring that the event will bring in millions and make a few collectors very happy indeed.

Steve McQueen Style: 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Luso for Sale at $1.6 Million

In honor of the 80th anniversary of Steve McQueen's birth, global online luxury marketplace JamesList is offering a 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso for sale nearly identical to the one owned by the legendary actor. The "King of Cool"'s own 1963 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso, the jewel in his collection of exotic sports cars, was sold at auction in 2007 for $2.3 million; this one is priced at about $1.6 million. In production for barely 18 months, only 350 of the coveted cars were built, making it one of the most sought-after of all Ferrari's front-engined V-12 powered gran turismos. The Berlinetta Lusso on offer was owned by world famous conductor Herbert von Karajan and was built in 1964. Originally introduced at the 1962 Paris Motor Show, the Lusso combined the best features of the 250 GT Short Wheelbase Berlinetta and the 250 GTO in one beautiful, refined, quick, responsive, luxurious package, wrapped in one of Pininfarina's most attractive designs. The car on offer, finished in silver with a red leather interior, was completely restored by the Modena-based specialist Brandoli in 1985 and remains in pristine condition.
