World's Most Expensive Colt Sold At Auction
Filed under: Auctions
The world's most expensive colt was sold at
auction yesterday. A nameless Florida-born colt went for $16 million at Calder Race Course in Miami Gardens. Why
so much? The Miami Herald reports that the
two-year-old has two Derby winners in his bloodline and showed off to prospective buyers by having the fastest workout
time of the 154 horses up for bid. The winner was Irish racing magnate Demi O'Byrne who purchased the horse as
part of a team of buyers. The horse will have a lot to live up to but will probably be able to earn his keep through
breeding even if he isn't a Triple Crown winner. The handsome horse with the white blaze on his nose will definitely be
raced and could run in the 2007 Kentucky Derby. Good bloodlines are no guarantee but I hope we learn the name of this
horse soon so that I can follow his progress.[photo by Bill Denver/Equi-Photo]
