Disney Creates New Mixology-Centered Cocktail Menu

The Disney parks continue to find ways to delight both adults and children. They've rolled out a new cocktail menu that brings the mixology trend to the happiest place on earth. The new beverage menu looks like an explorer's journal and features cocktails with fresh fruits, herbs and organic spirits. Options include the Raspberry Rain Cocktail made with Rain Organics Red Grape Hibiscus Vodka, Chambord, freshly muddled raspberries, lychee and fresh lemon juice and the Superfruit Martini with Van Gogh Acai-Blueberry Vodka, pomegranate liqueur, cranberry juice, organic agave nectar and fresh lemon juice. The menu also includes non-alcoholic options. Many of the park restaurants already feature a wide variety of specialty cocktails including the always popular Glowtini, a bright blue mix of Skyy Citrus Vodka, Blue Curacao, peach schnapps, sour mix, and pineapple juice garnished with a souvenir glow cube.

The Mickey Mouse Penthouse At Disneyland

We've covered luxury hotel suites dedicated to Barbie and Eloise, now let's check out another beloved childhood figure with his own suite. The Mickey Mouse penthouse at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California. The suite offers views of the 500-acre resort through floor-to-ceiling windows. It is 1,600 square feet with an open living area and two bedrooms. The penthouse is decorated in Mickey's colors of black, white, red and yellow with photos and sketches from the Disney library on the walls. The master bedroom is filled with king-size bed, lounge chairs, a 37″ flat panel TV and a DVD player and the master bath has a steam shower, Jacuzzi tub and a double vanity with a built-in TV in the mirror. Glass tiles on the shower walls bring up the image of Mickey only when the warm water of the shower hits the tiles. The second bedroom has a round bed and can be used as a playroom. It has an animator's station and a Mickey Mouse built-in armoire with a flat panel TV, DVD player and video games. Check out more pictures at the Disney Parks blog.

Changes Planned For Disneyland Hotel

The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California has announced more upgrades to its ongoing renovations of the Disneyland Hotel. The changes will include building a new pool and water play area, renovating an existing pool, opening a new restaurant and bar, and re-theming of the hotel's three guest room towers.

The changes will restore the original midcentury style of the classic hotel. The hotel's original two-story bungalows were built in 1955, just months after Walt Disney's first theme park opened its gates and the first tower was erected in 1962. The biggest changes will be around the pool area which will have a new water play area. "Disneyland" will be spelled out in blocks atop a platform supporting two water slides. At each slide's entrance will sit a replica Monorail Car that guests will glide through on their way to the water below. The larger of the two main slides sits 26 feet high and stretches 187 feet until it plunges into a splash pool. The second slide is 13 feet high and 112 feet long. For younger children the area will include a third two-lane mini slide that sits just 3 1/2 feet high and is 19 feet long.

Disney Offers Deep Discounts

Mickey, Alice and Cinderella are getting a little lonely. As The New York Times reported the other day, Disney is running discounts at its theme parks to stem an ebbing tide of visitors. Attendance began falling in late 2008 at Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California. Traffic was down roughly 5 percent from the year before.

At Disney World, cost-conscious parents can reserve a seven-night package at one of 23 on-site hotels for the cost of four nights. The offer, which is good for trips through Aug. 15, can be applied to even the most upscale accommodations, such as the Polynesian and the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Visitors who book stays in early or late March can also receive a $200 gift card. Disneyland, meanwhile, is offering a variety of packages, beginning on hotel stays of two nights. The deals include adult tickets priced at the cost of children's tickets and free flights for kids on Alaska Airlines.

Own the Real Haunted Mansion

Disney fans take note: the house that was the inspiration behind the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland is up for sale. The Harry Packer Mansion was built in 1874 and is in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, a town that is known for its appreciation of Victorian architecture. Despite appearances (and the fact that it is currently used to host Murder Mystery Weekends), the current owners assure prospective buyers that the interior "is anything but spooky," with high ceilings, Tiffany stained glass windows, marble fireplaces, period antiques and fabrics. The mansion is about 4,500-sq. ft. and is priced at $1.75 million.
