Bottega Veneta Woven Leather Butterfly Tote, Handbag of the Day

If you appreciate subtlety in your handbag, you will probably like this tote with just a hint of butterfly pattern in the weave. Creamy nappa leather is delicately embossed with barely-there butterflies. Cinched with a 3" drop braided drawstring closure, the bag opens to pretty blue suede lining and a single pocket. Measuring 18"W x 15"H x 2"D, the Italian made bag is available for Spring pre-order at Saks for $2,820.

Botkier Nicole Tote, Handbag of the Day

I've been trying to decide which handbag I will be asking Santa to bring me this year. I am in the market for a bag that is large, durable and goes with anything. I have it narrowed down to a few, including this one. While it is also available in a gorgeous denim blue suede with gunmetal hardware, this black leather with oxidized copper hardware is better suited for every day use. The pleating at the bottom adds a casual softness to the bag and I love the detachable braided chain strap. In fact, why would you ever want to detach it? Lined in logo jacquard, the bag measures 15 ½"H x 13 ½"W x 6"D and features interior zip and cell phone pockets. $585.

Antoinette Lee Anna Stitch Tote, Handbag of the Day

There is something familiar about this bag that I can't quite put my finger on. I feel I've seen the color and the top-stitched handles before, but the elongated shape is definitely fresh. A roomy 15" x 12½", the bag sports gold-tone hardware and an interesting braided detail. What I like best is the wide 11½" straps. A bag this size can get pretty heavy when loaded and that extra support makes it a lot easier on the shoulder. With a magnetic snap closure, the interior has both zipper and cellphone pockets. $418.

Bottega Veneta Cornely Tote, Handbag of the Day

Woven leather in a mossy green creates a beautiful canvas for the pretty swirls that accent this feminine tote. With delicate gold tone hardware and graceful scalloped edges, the bag almost looks vintage. With slim handles and protective feet, this is a gorgeous bag that would add a bit of old style class to your wardrobe. Measuring 15" wide by x9" high by 4" deep, the Cornely tote sells for $3,300.

Lanvin Kansas Patent Tote, Handbag of the Day

Purple is popular this season, and this bag takes that hue just slightly to the blue side. It's a gorgeous color that really pops in patent leather. The thin strips of brown leather create a sharp-looking frame and the rather short rolled handles make for a nice fit under the arm. If you aren't looking for attention, you might want to skip this one. It's a look-at-me color on an oversized bag and carrying it will draw attention. The tote measures 16.5" x 17.5" x 5.5" and sells for $1995 at Barneys.

Thomas Wylde Fairground Tote, Handbag of the Day

I think the skull trend should be just about over by now, but with Halloween approaching, it seems appropriate to spotlight a ghoulish bag. From a distance, you might not even recognize the dead heads all over this canvas bag. But you will notice the proliferation of gunmetal logos tags hanging from every possible location. By my count, there are five -including a stationary one on the front pocket. For me, that is about three too many. I do like the numerous pockets - a zippered front pocket, two patch pockets on the sides and another on the back. The rolled patent leather handles have a 5.5" drop and inside the bag is lined in skull logo canvas and features a patent-trimmed zip pocket, patch and cell phone pockets. Even the bottom of this bag gets special treatment with patent leather and protective metal feet. As skull bags go, this one isn't too bad. $990.

Givenchy Two Tone Shopper, Handbag of the Day

I can see myself carrying this go-with-anything black and white leather tote on a regular basis. At 18" x 16.5" x 1", it's large enough to hold everything I need and has plenty of room for additional shopping finds. It has wide, comfortable straps and the interior cell and zip pockets will prevent the awkward 'tote-dig'. A little antiqued brass studded detail and a logo luggage tag finish off the look of this simple and practical bag. $1,600.

Hermes Garden Party Tote, Handbag of the Day

This tote caught my eye primarily for the luscious orange color. But color alone can't justify the $1395 price tag, so what else does this bag offer besides a high-end label? The answer is - not much. Made from cotton linen and trimmed in orange leather, it's a simple large tote like any other. I do like the way the top snaps in to adjust the width, but other than that and the detachable 45" shoulder strap, it is rather unremarkable. Pretty color, though!

Stuart Weitzman Bari Sandwich Tote, Handbag of the Day

What better way to start the week off than with a little bag of happy? This basic black tote gets a jolt of energy from beautiful all-over embroidery in sunshiny colors. Trimmed with black leather and lined in a neutral fabric, the tote features interior zip and slide pockets. It's large enough for all the essential plus a magazine or two. This bag may inspire you to skip work and enjoy the last days of summer sun reading in the park. $525.

Zagliani Crocodile Tote, Handbag of the Day

This one is way out of my budget, but is pretty, pretty. It is large and exotic, made from crocodile that is
silicone-injected, giving the skin a softer and more luxurious feel. The white matte finish is crisp and clean and the large, two-way zipper top gives easy access to all the compartments you could ever need - zip, phone, camera, pen and cards. Lined in suede, the Italian-made bag has 4" drop handles and is also available in black. $11,300.

Juicy Couture Maggie Charm Tote, Handbag of the Day

I don't usually go for Juicy bags as they tend to look a little young for me, but this one is rather sedate. It has just enough accessories to avoid being boring and is large enough to tote a weekend's worth of necessities. If there is one feature that makes it noteworthy, it is the wooden block charm which adds a nice, earthy feel. It wouldn't be Juicy without the chain and logo heart charm, which is uncharacteristically understated. It has a magnetic closure on the main compartment and the lined interior features a 6 inch zipper pocket as well as two accessory pockets. Also available in chocolate. $350.
