A wide strip of logo-emblazoned metallic blue calf leather adds a bit of pizazz to an otherwise standard looking canvas bag. More shimmery blue leather trims the large exterior zippered pocket and the thick leather straps. Inside, you'll find several more zippered pockets and black lining. It's a pretty bag, but that taupe colored tassel looks out of place. $789.

I don't know that 'siren' accurately describes this bag, but I like it anyway. Glossy Italian leather with a crinkly finish, the tasseled bag looks sporty and casual. This side view doesn't accurately depict how large the bag really is - with a 3.5" flat bottom sporting protective feet, it's a big 12" inches wide by 7.5" high. With thick braided straps and gunmetal hardware, the bag is lined with graphite colored lining and features three interior pockets.$258.

This is not your average metallic bag. The fabric is called 'broken mirror' and the look is dramatic. Made from crackled calf leather, the stunning pewter fabric is repeated on multi-faceted 'gems' and again on the frame. You can never have too much of a good thing, right? For some reason, purple doesn't get a lot of play in handbags. Zac Posen calls it amethyst, but to me it's grape and looks delicious. A structured bag with shiny patent leather on the front and pebbled leather on the back, the gorgeous color is accented with gold-tone hardware. A removable chunky chain strap holds a logo tab, which tucks into a small, off-center open pocket on the front. There's another large flap pocket on the exterior and the suede-lined interior features an additional zip pocket. Measuring 15½" W x 10½"H x 4½" D, the bag is also available in a less-luscious black. $1,200.

This one is way out of my budget, but is pretty, pretty. It is large and exotic, made from crocodile that is
silicone-injected, giving the skin a softer and more luxurious feel. The white matte finish is crisp and clean and the large, two-way zipper top gives easy access to all the compartments you could ever need - zip, phone, camera, pen and cards. Lined in suede, the Italian-made bag has 4" drop handles and is also available in black. $11,300.

You would think an evening bag completely covered in Austrians crystal would be a bit garish, but this one isn't. It's the subtle silver and champagne color of the crystals against the pale gold-tone hardware that keeps things in check. The frame is gracefully curved and the elegant push-lock closure adds a modern touch. A 10½" jeweled chain shoulder strap is included, which can be neatly tucked away inside the bag. The bag comes with a double sided mirror and a matching coin purse. $1495.

From the Firenze Collection, the Carla Satchel isn't all that unique, but I love the rich brown color of the croco-embossed Italian leather. At 13 x 10 3/4 x 5, it is fairly large and loaded with pockets: an open front pocket, a zippered center compartment, open side compartment and two interior zippered pockets. Plus, the bag has interior card and cell phone holders. This could easily become my favorite everyday work bag. $335.

I know this look is not for everybody, and even a crystal-encrusted skull can be kind of scary looking, but I am just a tiny bit attracted to this bag. Look past the dead head on the leather flap and the bag is a riot of pleasing, shaggy softness. Made from distressed Mongolian lamb, it has an intentional worn look that adds even more character to a bag that wasn't short on character to begin with. The chain and leather strap is nice, but beware - the interior not only sports zip and patch pockets, but skull lining as well. $3,000.

Chopard may be better known for timepieces and jewelry, but their collection of accessories does include a few lovely handbags and wallets. This is the Happy Fish Bag, made from grained calf leather and cotton canvas. Compared to other bags in this price range, this one seems rather lightweight and skimpy on the leather, but it does have the cute factor. The bag features little fish cut-outs as well as metal and resin fish hardware. With a simple flap closure, the bag might be rather spare, but it is definitely unique. $520.

Lambertson Truex Tenny Tote, Handbag of the Day

I am loving the crisp basket-weave on this tote. Weaving leather strips together this way isn't all that unique, but the contrasting top-stitching adds a nice touch and gives the pattern even more dimension. 17" double handles with a 61/2 inch drop makes for a nice fit on your shoulder and the hinge-locked flap opening gives easy access to the interior. The bag is lined in pretty baby blue suede and includes the standard zip, patch and cell pockets as well as a key fob and two card holders. Minimal polished silver-tone hardware on the bag and protective feet finish things off and the end result is a very wearable everyday tote. $957.

I absolutely love the colorful print on this bag. Designed by French textile artist Madame Paule Marrot, the warmly colored geometric pattern will heat up a cool fall afternoon. This is actually the back side of the satchel - the reverse has a large leather patch with a zip pocket covering most of the beautiful print. Made from Italian vegetable tanned leather, the bag features three more pockets inside and is lined in a coordinating fabric. The shoulder strap is adjustable and the limited edition bag measures 15 1/2"L x 9"H x 4"D. It is also available in two other gorgeous prints. $335.

Many of Judith Leiber's designs are quirky little creations that wouldn't appeal to most. Her Dora fish is cute, but might make a grown women feel a bit like a child. But this one I like. The Asscher is a compact evening bag with a large Austrian crystal placed front and center. Surrounded by even more crystals, the bag resembles a great, big diamond glowing against a field of black. Lined in satin with a detachable chain, the bag measures 3.5" square and is 1.5" deep. $2695.
