D. Porthault Owner Receives Legion of Honor Award


The owner of luxury linens brand D. Porthault, Joan Carl of Washington, D.C. recently received an important honor. She became a Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur, one of the highest levels of recognition granted by the government of France. Carl was designated to receive this honor by a decree signed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy because of her service and commitment to France and her work in reviving the great French home textiles brand D. Porthault. Under her leadership the brand has opened a new flagship store in Paris as well as a new boutique on Park Avenue in New York City. Pierre Vimont, France's ambassador to the United States, honored Carl for her "very special contribution to the advancement of the relationship between France and the United States." Other American women who have been granted this honor include former U.S. Ambassador Pamela Harriman, Julia Child, Barbara Streisand, and the dancer Josephine Baker. Recipients receive a red rosette worn on their lapel.

With a new President in office, all eyes are on Washington D.C. For those who want to bring a little of the city into their home decor French linen maker D. Porthault has created a singularly extravagant tablecloth. The linen tablecloth was designed by D. Porthault's owner Joan Carl and the design team to replicate the Washington DC skyline and bear interpretations of the Capitol, Washington Monument and other famous DC landmarks accented with Swarovski crystals. The cloth is for sale at the D. Porthault New York store (470 Park Ave) for $20,000.

Gossip Girl And D. Porthault Beach Towels

If you are a fan of the teen drama Gossip Girl then you probably know that the show is filming part of their upcoming fall season in the Hamptons. Some of the scenes were shot at the Southampton home of Joan Carl, designer and owner of French home-couture brand D. Porthault. Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, stars of the CW hit show are shown lounging on D. Porthault's cushy Tigre print beach towels. After all, when you loan out your house for filming you should be entitled to some good product placement.
