Cruise the Greek Isles and Turkey on the Sea Cloud

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

Sea Cloud's luxury cruise to Turkey and Greece
Some 2,500 years ago, the warm waters between Greece and what is now Turkey were filled with the warring fleets of Persia's King Xerxes and his Greek foes. These days, the ships sailing through the Aegean are of a much more peaceful variety-none more majestic than the vessels of Sea Cloud, a nominee for a Luxist award in the best summer cruises category.

One of Sea Cloud's most popular itineraries takes guests from Athens through the Greek Isles to Turkey and back again. The eight-day trip includes stops at Delos, an entire island designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site; Rhodes, where the Palace of the Grand Master still stands; and Bodrum, the Turkish town that was once home to the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the original seven wonders of the world.

For those wishing to venture farther East, Sea Cloud's Athens-Cyprus trip includes stops at Knossos, island home of the fabled Minotaur; Latakia and Aleppo, one of the world's oldest continually-inhabited cities; and Tartarus, home to the Krak de Chevaliers, a Christian castle from the time of the first crusade. The trip terminates in the Cypriot city of Lanarca.

Both itineraries (which start at $3,995 per person and go all the way up to $7,995 person, not counting an early booking discount of $500) feature one of two ships: the Sea Cloud and the Sea Cloud II. The latter bristles with teak and brass, holds 94 people and is sure to instill envy in any observer-perhaps even King Xerxes himself.

Vote for the Summer Cruise that you think is the best of breed. The winner will be announced on September 1st.

Jennifer Lopez Facing $40 Million Lawsuit After Concert Cancellation

Jennifer Lopez could be facing a $40 million lawsuit after canceling a planned concert in northern Cyprus. Lopez was booked to perform on July 24 at the Cratos Premium hotel and casino complex but she has decided not to go through with the show for "political" reasons. Lopez, Marc Anthony and their two children were due to stay at the hotel.

The booking outraged Greek Cypriots in the southern part of the island nation because they felt that performing in the north would be making a political statement in support of the northern regime. The island of Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when it was occupied by Turkey. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is only recognized by Turkey .
The singer faced criticism for the event and a Facebook protest against the concert has over 21,000 members. The concert scheduled for Lopez's 41st birthday, reportedly would have paid $3 million. The hotel owner has said that he will withdraw the suit if Lopez follows through on her obligation.

The Aura residence is like nothing I've ever seen before. This unique home is located in Larnaca on the island of Cyprus a short drive from the Larnaca marina and the Cyprus international airport. The design was based on the Kanagawa wave of the famous Japanese artist "Hokusai" and features a unique ribbed roof. The luxurious home on Dekelia beach has six bedrooms, a hammam, media room, swimming pool with two Jacuzzis, yoga platform and more. It is listed at €12,500,000.

It's a Dog's Life on Cyprus

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels, Pets

On Cyprus, different beaches appeal to different people, but they all have one thing in common: no dogs are allowed on them. The rule is in place to make sure the beaches stay clean for bathers. Perhaps tired of enforcing the policy, or simply tired of hearing complaints from dog-lovers, the authorities on the holiday island are considering changing the rules to give dogs (and presumably their owners) their own beach. No location has been picked out yet, but a dog-only beach is sure to be a big draw with pet owners.

Pink Palace For Jordan

Jordan, a.k.a Katie Price, is getting a mansion. Her husband, Peter Andre, just paid £3.5 million to have a palace built for his wife on the island of Cyprus, where his family is originally from. The holiday house will be pink, both inside and out , just like their wedding was last year. The couple met on the reality show "I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here."

Parallels were drawn between Jordan and Barbie at her wedding, so the mansion is likely to be tagged as the real-life Barbie Dream House when it is complete.
