Winner Announced in Olympus PEN E-PL1 Contest

Amongst fierce competition, roller blading enthusiast Kevin Dowling went on to win Olympus' "PEN your story challenge" contest which we wrote about back in May. Dowling won the prize of Olympus' great new compact PEN E-PL1 digital camera (above) and $5,000 to make his documentary video Blading, in addition to an all-expense-paid trip for two to New York City to attend the Olympus-sponsored US Open National Tennis Championships where a sample of his video was displayed on the giant board in the famed Arthur Ashe Stadium before an audience of thousands. Selecting a winner from the finalists wasn't easy – Olympus received hundreds of proposal submissions which were eventually narrowed down to 20 semi-finalists and then six finalists. Dowling's selection was based on a combination of popular vote and the panel of Olympus judges, and his video showcased the professional-grade digital single lens reflex (DSLR) image quality, point-and-shoot simplicity and high-definition (HD) video capabilities of the amazingly compact camera. Lufthansa's Flavors of India Contest

Your cooking skills could win you a trip to India. Lufthansa is running the Flavors of India contest that invites people to submit creative and exotic Indian-based recipes in order to win the Grand Prize – two round-trip tickets to India and a three-day, two-night stay at one of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, which are located throughout India.

The promotion is available to U.S. residents and entrants do not have to be aspiring chefs to register and participate in the "Flavors of India" contest. Silver Dollar Sets New World Record

1794 silver coin
A rare 1794 U.S. silver dollar has set a record price. The Neil/Carter/Contursi specimen 1794 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar sold for $7.85 million. What makes this particular coin so rare is that it is the finest known 1794 dollar and several experts believe this could be the first silver dollar ever struck by the United States Mint.

The coin was sold by Steven L. Contursi, President of Rare Coin Wholesalers of Irvine, California, to the nonprofit Cardinal Collection Educational Foundation in Sunnyvale, California. Contursi has had the coin since 2003, acquiring it for a price he's only ever defined as "millions of dollars." He has displayed the coin in cities around the country and had a custom wooden exhibit case constructed so it could be seen more easily. When it wasn't on tour it was a featured exhibit at the American Numismatic Association's Edward C. Rochette Money Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Olympus' great new compact PEN E-PL1 digital camera with professional-grade digital single lens reflex (DSLR) image quality, point-and-shoot simplicity and high-definition (HD) video encourages you to realize your creative vision. To emphasize the point they have launched a contest to win one of the 12-megapixel cameras, along with $5,000 to bring that vision to life, and then some. Dubbed the "PEN your story challenge", the contest runs through June 6th at http://www.youtube.com/getolympus and http://www.getolympus.com, via video proposals submitted by entrants. Your "vision" can be anything you can produce with the PEN E-PL1 and a $5,000 budget, be it a short film with HD video, a fashion spread of pro-quality still images, an adventure chronicle combining both, or an amazing photomontage.

Once the proposal submissions have been narrowed down to 20 semi-finalists selected by the community via thumbs up "likes", six of the best will be selected by a panel of judges from Olympus, as well as the YouTube community. Those six individuals will receive the PEN, the funds and time to bring their proposals to life. Once the six finalists have uploaded their final creations to YouTube for the world to see, one lucky Grand Prize winner will be selected based on a combination of popular vote and the panel of Olympus judges. The Grand Prize winner will receive an all-expense-paid trip for two to New York City to attend the Olympus-sponsored US Open on Olympus Day. The winner's work will be displayed on the giant video board at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center before an audience of thousands.

To help things along Olympus is offering professional tips on making your filmmaking dreams become a reality from multi Webby-Award winner Erik Beck, executive producer of the online DIY filmmaking network Indy Mogul . Beck has produced a how-to video with tips and tricks to assist you with the production of your submission for the PEN your story challenge. Canadian Club Whisky Hide A Case Contest

Canadian Club whisky is reviving one of their oldest promotional campaigns, one that sends whisky aficionados on the hunt for missing cases. "Over the span of more than two decades, 25 cases of Canadian Club Whisky were hidden around the world as part of the brands extremely popular Hide A Case adventure," says Michael Cockram, senior director, Canadian Club. "With several cases still hidden, CC is challenging adventure-lovers to join the hunt. We're bringing back this exciting campaign by inviting legal purchase age consumers to join the search for one of the undiscovered cases, this time with a chance at winning $100,000."

You can register at www.hideacase.com to win one of eight spots on the expedition. Starting May 17, the website will feature the first of six weekly challenges where participants can try to figure out clues to win points to get through round one. Those who receive 50 or more points move on to round two where they will post a video online illustrating why they should join the CC Hide A Case expedition. In July, the top 30 videos will be put before a panel of judges and an online vote to help narrow the playing field down to four Canadians and four Americans. In April 2011, these eight participants will head off to parts unknown and will compete against each other in a series of scavenger hunt and trivia challenges designed to uncover find a hidden case of Canadian Club Whisky and win the $100,000 prize. Canadian adventurer Kevin Brauch, TV's Thirsty Traveler and floor reporter for Iron Chef America, will lead the adventure.
