You can probably guess who designed this bag just by looking at it, who else but Alexander McQueen? Oriental meets high fashion meets old-fashioned glamour meets McQueen in the Oriental Samurai Skull Silk-Satin Box Clutch. It's a combination made in heaven (or the opposite of perhaps, based on the clasp). The bag features box-clutch styling done up in black silk-satin with gold embroidery and beaded appliqués, a golden Samurai skull clasp at top with black Swarovski crystal eyes, a golden hardware frame, and a black leather lining. No chain shoulder strap on this one, detachable or otherwise, and no internal pockets. $2,195

The Kate Spade New York Book of the Month "Emanuelle" Frame Clutch blends fashion with culture with romance to create a simple but surprisingly bold accessory. It's hard for anything with prominent letters or words not to catch the eye but this one does it in a pretty and very feminine way in pale pink PVC. Inside it's fully lined in a cute black and white cotton twill bookstripe print and it has three compartments, the center one zippered, while outside it has metallic foiled leather and enamel trim.

The front says "Emma Jane Austin" and on the back "It darted through her with the speed of an arrow that Mr. Knightley must marry no one but herself." $325

Lanvin redoes their iconic Amalia bag this time as the Amalia Trousse Quilted Leather Clutch. I can't decide if it looks more like a makeup bag or a sexy boudoir-inspired an evening accessory but either way it features a large-pattern quilted raspberry leather body with pink satin trim and a combination of silver and gold hardware. It also has a designer-stamped hanging tag, pink grosgrain tassel, and zip-top closure. Inside it's lined in printed black twill and there are no pockets or handles whatsoever. $585

This Miu Miu Appliquéd Metallic Leather Clutch takes "rockstar" to a very literal level with large overlapping stars in gold and black layered on silver. I don't think I'd take the recommendation and wear it with a busy black and white starry dress (a simple LBD would be much better) but if you're looking for a stand-out bag that has a fresh and hip energy this could certainly work. Multi-colored glitter is not something that usually sounds good in a description but in this case it certainly looks good in reality. Anya Hindmarch's Valorie Glitter-Finish Leather Clutch is a leather envelope with an all-over glitter finish treatment, goldtone hardware including a prominent designer-stamped twist lock fastening on the fold-over front, and a lining of gold leather and beige suede with one pouch pocket. The color is called "Old Pink" and this clutch does have plenty of old-time glamour as well as contemporary appeal. It's an artistic and somewhat unexpected way to wear bling. $395

The Red Valentino Bow Flap Convertible Clutch is a shockingly affordable and chic offering from the House of Valentino.

Before you get all up in arms over the fact that this is clearly pink, not red, allow us to inform you that RED actually stands for "Romantic Eccentric Dress," and is a sister line to the traditional Valentino. Red Valentino is a collection with "all of Valentino's sophistication -- but injected with a more contemporary feel," says Net-a-Porter. We think "contemporary" must mean "cheaper." But we're not complaining.

And it also comes in gray.

This adorable 11"W X 7½"H X ¼"D convertible clutch has a magnetic snap closure and a 22" tuckaway shoulder chain. We love it because it's fresh, charming, and has a big ol' unapologetic 1980's bow on it. This bag says "I'm kicky and fun, but with high style." It's the perfect touch of feminity for a no-frills shift dress or other outfit. Match your lipstick to it. We dare you.
