Charlize Theron's Kiss Worth $140,000

I haven't heard much lately about Charlize Theron, but she made it back into this news this past week with her part in the OneXOne charity event on October 22 in San Francisco, where she took the stage to auction off a prize that included a two-week trip to her native South Africa to watch soccer's World Cup in summer 2010, a safari, and a meet-and-greet with Nelson Mandela. The winning bidder, a woman, received an extra item for her $140,000 donation -- a kiss with Theron, who had tossed in the offer of a kiss to increase bidding when the offers plateaued at $37,000.

Theron was at the event to help raise money for the Charlize Theron African Outreach Project, which is teaming with the OneXOne Foundation to bring soccer fields and clean water to the children of South Africa by 2010, in time for the World Cup. Theron is in a long-term relationship with actor Stuart Townsend. "My boyfriend is not here tonight," she joked during the auction.

The Fashion Statement: A Subdued Fashion Week?

Day two at New York fashion week and, already, the trends we'll be wearing next spring are starting to emerge. But the recession continues to cast a bigger cloud over Bryant Park than the pouring rain outside.

There are fewer shows-about 10 fewer than in February-because designers have moved to less expensive venues or have chosen not to show at all. Other designers pooled their funds (and models) and showed together on one runway.

"It's not as wild as I thought it was going to be," said Damon Webster, a commercial producer who was at the shows for the first time. "It's fairly tame."

Elizabeth Fisch, an intern at Vogue, said the decor of the lobby looks like it's been toned down and there is less intense promotion by sponsors.

Most surprisingly, though, some attendees insist they've seen fewer celebrities. Russell Simmons, Monet Mazur and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have all been spotted as well as an endless supply of TV reality show stars. But without a parade of A-listers, fashion week is not the media circus it's been in the past.

"There was a big line to get a glimpse of Kid Cudi last night," said Webster. Who's Kid Cudi? "Exactly!" Kid Cudi is a well-known hip-hop artist, but you get the point-not exactly a household name.

Then again celeb gawkers would have been very pleased with Fashion's Night Out (a shopping event) on Thursday night, where bumping into big names (Charlize Theron, Hate Hudson, Gwen Stefani, Victoria Beckham) was about as common as running into freaky dressers at the tents.

Charlize Theron Could Be Out $20 Million

Looks like Charlize Theron will be heading to court against watchmaker Raymond Weil. The case, which we first reported on last year, has gone before a New York judge who ruled that the case has enough weight to proceed to a jury trial. Raymond Weil is suing for $20 million in damages saying that Theron violated her endorsement contract, which dictated that she only wear Weil watches, by wearing a Dior watch at a public appearance. She of course has also been the face of Dior's fragrance, J'Adore. Damages will be decided at trial but it seems likely that the opposing sides will settle before then. Charlize Theron has already gone on to a new watch, jewelry and accessories contract with Breil Milano.

UPDATE: Theron has settled the suit for an undisclosed amount.

Charlize Theron Renews With Breil Milano

Charlize Theron may not have gotten along too well with the Raymond Weil watch people but she seems to be doing just fine with Breil Milano. The leggy blonde actress has renewed her contract with Italian luxury brand signing up to appear in the company's advertising campaigns until 2011. She will appear in ads not just for watches and jewelry but for Breil Milano's forays into the luxury leather goods and eyewear markets. She has filmed a new campaign with photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino in Los Angeles.

LVMH Chief Bullish on Luxury Brands

Filed under: Apparel, Handbags, Cosmetics and Fragrance

Bernard Arnault, chairman of luxury goods monolith LVMH, says that despite dire economic predictions and reports of a falloff in parts of the luxury sector the company expects profits to actually improve in 2008. "We are in a position to meet our objectives for a sharp rise in earnings in 2008," Arnault just announced at LVMH's annual shareholders meeting, according to Women's Wear Daily. "Every time we've been [in a difficult economy] we've increased market share. We've started the year strong. We will not pull off [of the accelerator]. We are focused on innovating."

Arnault, whose company recently added Swiss watchmaker Hublot to its portfolio of luxury brands, singled out handbags as a strong earner. "There are tons of new leather goods," he declared. "The Richard Prince bag for Vuitton" - one of our Handbags of the Day -- "has been an immense success and we won't be able to meet demand," Arnault said. "We can't produce the pieces fast enough." He also predicted strong sales this year for Fendi, calling it "one of the most important Italian brands on the market," and Dior as well -- no doubt thanks to Charlize Theron's captivating fragrance ads (above).

Charlize Theron Gives Watch Promoting Another Try

After Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron's rather disastrous alliance with watch company Raymond Weil, I'm a bit surprised that the beauty signed herself up for another watch shilling gig (not to mention one that has a very similar sounding name to the last company she worked with) . Last time the poor girl got sued for breach of contract just for wearing another company's watch. Let's hope her new job as the face of Italian luxury brand Breil Milano goes more smoothly. Theron has been signed to a multi-year contract and the ad campaign is already out. She will star in all Breil Milano advertisements, including spots on television ,print media and outdoor advertisements in various the countries where the brand is marketed.

Charlize Theron Gets Sued

Actress Charlize Theron is experiencing the dark side of celebrity endorsement. Sure you get a fistful of cash but you also get a lawsuit if you don't wear the products. Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil has filed a breach of contract lawsuit against Charlize because she had signed an endorsement deal saying that from October 2005 through December 2006 she would only wear Weil watches. In March 2006 she was spotted wearing a Dior watch. That's a big no-no and the company is taking action. This isn't the first celeb endorsement lawsuit we've seen. Jessica Simpson was sued by Princy for wearing True Religion instead of her own branded jeans and Melanie Griffith got in trouble for not mentioning the name of the designer she wore to the Golden Globes in 2006.
