Donna Karan Drawstring Shoulder Bag, Handbag of the Day

donna karan beige shoulder bag
A taupe canvas shoulder bag may not come across as the ideal winter accessory, but we had to feature this gorgeous Drawstring Shoulder Bag ($593) by Donna Karan. It features a long and slim silhouette, which I love because this bag will lay nicely against your body without unnecessary bulkiness when your carrying a few items. Multi-colored stone and metallic beading adorn the flap complementing the bag's neutral color palette. In addition to playful beading, the Drawstring Shoulder Bag is accented with leather running through the sides creating a drawstring effect and completed with a tie at the base.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Army Handhack Bag

The Army Handhack ($298) is the newest line of bags by Marc Jacobs that proves itself to be functional and stylish. Given its size and that it can be worn as a tote or a backpack, the Handhack can be used is so many ways - as an overnight bag, a weekender, a daily bag, or even a baby bag.

This durable canvas bag boasts an extra roomy interior, three exterior flap pockets, and a large front zippered compartment that can be accessed on either side, easily fitting everything you need and then some. While canvas is easy to clean, I appreciate that the bottom of the bag is leather. It complements the overall look and once it gets a little dirty and worn, it will only add to the bag's character. The Handhack is accented with gold grommets, zippers and buckles while a cranberry stripe on the handles add a little dose of color.

Jack Spade Industrial Canvas Dipped Coal Tote

Ah, another Jack Spade bag that I'm lusting over. The Dipped Industrial Canvas Tote ($97.50) makes me want to pack for the beach. Even though this candy-colored tote screams summer fun at the beach, I'm sure the designer did not create this solely for the beach. Especially since it's made from canvas and dipped in rubber latex for ultimate durability. So while lugging all your beach essentials would be a piece of cake for the Industrial Tote, you could use this bag for anything and it would last a lifetime. Use for overnight or weekend trips, a day at the park, work, or if you are an oversized bag fanatic like me, wear as your summer handbag.

Keeping with the essence of Jack Spade style, it is minimally adorned with just the company's tag. What sets this bag off is its adventurous colorway. View their other options here, if you in the market for something subtle. Dimensions: 16" x 7" x 14".

Chloe Ankle Cuff SandalThe variety of sandals available for the season is endless. You can go with a more traditional style or be daring and wear a pair like the Chloe Ankle Cuff Sandal ($595) , which is a nice mix of traditional and trendy. Traditional because of the color - this will match anything you have in your closet - but also trendy given its silhouette and canvas ankle cuff. It features an adjustable buckle strap so you can wear the cuff up or down. Pair with virtually any casual outfit for a relaxed yet stylish summer look.

Giuseppe Zanotti Studded Sandals

Giuseppe Zanotti Studded Sandals
Canvas gets a sexy upgrade in Giuseppe Zanotti's High Heeled Sandals ($512). Usually a material associated with sneakers and tote bags, it's refreshing to see canvas used in this way. The color choice is great since olive is a muted color tone that is complimentary to a number of outfits regardless of the color scheme.

While canvas lends itself to be casual, it's the addition of silver studs and 4 inch heels that are harmoniously brought together to create a pair of chic heeled sandals making them ideal for casual outfits when you still want height but you don't want to appear overdressed. They have a cross over foot strap and a zipper back so you don't have to try and squeeze your foot in when your putting them on.

Bespoke Safari Boots from Frosdick of London

Filed under: Handbags, Shoes, Men's Style

bespoke safari boots
In recent months we've written about the resurgence of luxury expeditions to Africa and the New Safari Style. Now newly-minted British design firm Frosdick of London is launching its first line of bespoke, vintage-inspired safari-style boots called the "Out of Africa" collection. Taking design cues from the British Colonial "great white hunter's" classic attire, the boots are made entirely by hand in Northamptonshire, UK, using only the finest leather from Italian tanneries combined with pure cotton 20-ounce canvas woven in Scotland's Dundee. The boots, available for both men and women, are lined with the softest calf leather for comfort and durability and trimmed with elegant, Italian solid brass buckle fastenings. The canvas uppers can also be finished in genuine Burchell's zebra skin and ostrich leather, both ethically sourced in Africa.

In addition the firm is offering a range of made-to-order ladies' bags finished in exotic Kudu and Springbok hides. The authentic skins feature the natural markings that only a life in the wilds of Africa can bestow. One of the longest-horned antelopes, greater Kudu can have impressive spiral horns measuring six feet long. Each bag is lined with brightly colored pure linen and features a useful choice of straps and finest quality Italian brass fittings. The bespoke products will be available starting this summer with prices expected to begin at about $6,000 for boots and $4,000 for bags. Other items can be custom made and are limited only by your imagination. Contact davfro@btinternet.com for more info.

Anya Hindmarch Canvas Tote, Handbag of the Day

Here are a couple of casual bags from Anya Hindmarch, because some days nothing but laid-back comfort will do. Natural canvas tote meets tan leather handles in this bag that's perfect for the grocery, farmer's market, and wherever else you need to take it. The bag comes in two designs, "Dairy" in a pink print shown above, and a gray version called "Dry Cleaning" that's in the gallery below. Both super relaxed, super timeless, and super versatile. I just wish there were more than only the two designs. $98

Chopard Happy Fish Bag, Handbag of the Day

Chopard may be better known for timepieces and jewelry, but their collection of accessories does include a few lovely handbags and wallets. This is the Happy Fish Bag, made from grained calf leather and cotton canvas. Compared to other bags in this price range, this one seems rather lightweight and skimpy on the leather, but it does have the cute factor. The bag features little fish cut-outs as well as metal and resin fish hardware. With a simple flap closure, the bag might be rather spare, but it is definitely unique. $520.

Burberry Canvas Crest Hobo, Handbag of the Day

Where have I seen something quite this tacky? Oh, I remember. Lately Burberry's been doing well. The Manor bag and the sliver check are both winners in my book. This one however is a clunker. The solid canvas hobo has a Burberry crest embroidery with pebbled grain leather trim and strap. The bag comes in stone with white details. If you must, it sells for $470.

Tory Burch Printed Canvas Tote, Handbag of the Day

A casual canvas tote is a must-have for summer, especially if you intend to head down to the shore a couple of times. The canvas is sturdy and will hold up well to sand, sun and sea, while the open-top style and large size make it the perfect carrier for bulky towels and sandals, as well as sunblock and other beach accessories that you need fast access to. The Tory Burch Printed Canvas Tote features a bold blue and white color scheme with an all-over floral print. It also has a navy patent leather trim at the base and on the wide, woven shoulder straps. The bag is $225 and the matching logo leather slides pictured with it are $195.

Fendi Canvas Bag du Jour, Handbag of the Day

There is not a giant buckle anywhere to be seen on Fendi's new Canvas Bag du Jour, a welcome change for anyone who is looking forward to seeing some slightly more understated handbags. Not that the large logo on the front of the bag is exactly subtle, although it is much less attention-grabbing than buckles the size of the purse. This handbag is made out of natural canvas and has a black patent calfskin trim. The two top shoulder straps are woven, as are the loops on the two side pockets. It is quite large and measures 12 4/5"H x 20"W x 7 1/5"D. Price: $1,400.

Yves Saint Laurent Downtown Medium Canvas Tote, Handbag of the Day

It looks like Gucci isn't the only designer with a cruise line out now. Yves Saint Laurent has their collection up, too. This Downtown Medium Canvas Tote is one of the more casual bags from the line and it is easy to picture it as an everyday sort of bag. The Italian-made tote has a canvas body with matching leather trim, accented with golden hardware that gives the bag a polished look canvas alone could not provide. It has double top handles and two half-zip closures. It measures 13"H X 19"L X 4"W with a 7" drop from the straps so the tote can be tucked under an arm or carried in-hand. Price: $1,095.

Lulu Guinness Too Rich Too Thin, Handbag of the Day

I don't think that this Lulu Guinness handbag is going to catch on among the fashion forward celebrity 20-somethings (not with Paris and Lindsay, anyway), but wouldn't it be nice if it did? The Too Rich Too Thin Keeley is a simple, black canvas bag with a rolled strap that can be slipped onto a shoulder. The text on the fabric, in brightly colored embroidered writing, reads "you can be to rich and too thin." True, it sounds a little bit preachy, but as long as you take it with a sense of humor and don't hit people over the head with it, no matter how tempting it might be, you are going to get compliments on more than just the bag. Price: £150.
