Jennifer Lopez Rents Designer's Yacht For Cannes

Filed under: Yachts & Sailing, Celebrity Shopping

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony aren't just yacht hopping in Cannes, they've also rented a yacht of their own as a home base. The Daily Mail reports that Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony have been hobnobbing with two of Britain's richest men, Lakshmi Mittal and Sir Philip Green. They spent time on Sir Philip Green's Lionchase after visiting Lakshmi Mittal's Amevi superyacht. But after bouncing around the Mediterranean the pair retire to Roberto Cavalli's yacht, which they have rented for their stay in the Mediterranean. Cavalli has quite a side business in yacht rental. He has owned the 133-foot yacht for six years and has rented it out to a variety of celebrity friends including Victoria and David Beckham and Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon who stayed on it during last year's Cannes film festival.

It's hard to miss Cavalli's yacht. Iin a world of blandly white yachts, the psychedelic hull of the Baglietto yacht really stands out. The unique paintwork matches Cavalli's car and helicopter and appears to be different colors in different light. It has been the home of many lavish parties, has an on-deck Jacuzzi and sleeps eight. The yacht, which bears his name, cost around $40 million to create but perhaps earns its keep (and upkeep) by serving as an advertisement for the flashy Roberto Cavalli brand.

The Fashion Statement: Cannes Style

Le Festival de Cannes got underway yesterday bringing Hollywood to the French Riviera. Among the highlights expected this week? The debut of Sir Ridley Scott's Robin Hood and Oliver Stone's Wall Street sequel.

But it's not the films that interest us. It's the fashion shows.

First up, the Robin Hood premiere: Kate Beckinsale and Eva Longoria (pictured above), in particular, did not disappoint the fashion gods. Both showed up in frilly frothy gowns with dramatic trains of tiered chiffon worthy of the crimson carpet. Beckinsale chose Marchesa. Longoria was in Emilio Pucci. (Pucci, by the way, has created a limited edition caftan to be sold in their Cannes boutique to celebrate the festival.)

Cate Blanchett attended a press conference in an elegant in a Giorgio Armani Privé daytime dress and later made an entrance (and headlines) in a black, off-the-shoulder gown designed by the late designer Alexander McQueen. The dress is emblazoned, front and back, with a silver eagle taking flight and was part of the last collection designed by McQueen before the designer killed himself in February.

Meanwhile, Salma Hayek debuted the first ever haute couture collection from Gucci Premiere in the form of a deep red Bordeaux silk one-shoulder draped gown. Yes, surprisingly, the Italian house has never in its history produced an haute couture collection.
