Tullibardine Whisky Casks for Burns Night

In addition to the special offerings for Burns Night on Jan. 25 which my colleague Deidre Woollard has already written about comes this tantalizing one from Highland single malt distillery Tullibardine, which will guarantee stylish Burns Night celebrations in the years to come.

The distillery is offering limited edition personalized casks in either a sherry or bourbon barrel, stenciled with the owner's name, the Aberdeen Press and Journal reports. The whisky will be stored at the distillery for 10 years to mature, during which time visits are welcomed in order for a taster dram or two to be experienced. Once matured to perfection, the cask's contents will be bottled with personalized labels.

Prices start at about $1,500 per cask. A photograph of the cask, along with a certificate of authentication, will be sent out in time for Burns night. Tullibardine single malt (right) is a bit on the light side, exhibiting a fresh and floral taste with hints of vanilla and chocolate orange lacing the palate.

I've already covered one whisky for this year's historic Burns Night, the celebration of the birth of Scottish poet Robert Burns on January 25 and now Famous Grouse, which is the sponsor of the World Famous Burns Supper has come out with a Burns bottle for auction. To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Burns's birth they have created 250 bottles of 37-year-old Famous Grouse. You can only get your hands on it through charity auction. Those who are holding a Burns supper and wish to auction it off for charity can apply for one of the bottles which could raise upwards of £400 for charity.

The World Famous Burns Supper website lets you register your supper and get a supper pack that includes invitations, placeholders, menu templates, the running order and a selection of Burns poetry. The goal is to establish a new World Record for the greatest number of Burns suppers ever held. Every supper registered will be flagged on an interactive world map. The Brothers of the Kisco 708 masonic hall event will be among the earliest of the season on Jan 10, 2009 at the masonic hall in Mt. Kisco which will have one of bottles of the The Famous Grouse, 37 year old blended malt on hand.

Not too many people here in the U.S. celebrate Burns Night (January 25) but what's not to like about a holiday that involves poetry and whisky? The 2009 Burns Night marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Scotland's national poet. Whisky producer, Isle of Arran Distillers, has released a limited edition bottling of its Single Malt - 250th Anniversary Robert Burns Malt. Fifteen ex-Sherry casks were selected from the 1998 distillation by Distillery Manager, James MacTaggart, for the bottling, with just 1,800 bottles available in the UK. The whisky sells for £49.99.
