Cruise Like P. Diddy in the 'RM Elegant' Superyacht
Before he coughed up for the new iPad-controlled Solemates superyacht, Sean "Diddy" Combs cruised around in style on the RM Elegant (above) a striking 236-ft. craft with fluid lines built by Greece's Lamda Shipyard in 2005. Diddy isn't the only celeb to have partied aboard the aptly-named yacht, which offers luxe accommodation for up to 30 guests in 15 cabins along with 30 crew; her vast deck space includes a 12-person Jacuzzzi surrounded by an huge sunbathing and entertaining area, which played host to producer Jerry Weintraub's party for Ocean's 13 at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007 where the likes of George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt made the scene onboard.

Now the yacht has been listed for sale with Edmiston at an undisclosed eight-figure price. Elegant's sun deck is accessed by a lift from all the guest decks and provides a double-sided bar as well as shower rooms. The yacht's gracious saloons offer quiet unassuming elegance with a grand piano in the main entrance and home entertainment facilities in the second reception room. The Master Suite occupies the full width of the Bridge Deck with a large private saloon and spa bath. Other onboard amenities include a business center, home theatre, fully equipped gymnasium, beauty salon, sauna and massage room. The twin 2,260 hp CATs are good for a cruising speed of 15 knots and a maximum speed of 18 knots.

Filed under: Apparel, Events, Celebrity Shopping, Men's Style

When you've got Angelina Jolie on your arm in a thigh-and-cleavage bearing cream-colored cashmere confection, the best thing for a man to do is provide the perfectly elegant backdrop. Brad Pitt pulled that off with flair to spare at the premiere of Jolie's new movie The Tourist in New York the other night. The dashing actor's all-black outfit was topped with a ruggedly stylish military-inspired double breasted wool greatcoat with a capacious shearling collar from Burberry's acclaimed Autumn / Winter 2010 collection (one of their cool leather-trimmed bags appeared in our recent Fall Style feature). The actor accessorized the seriously warm coat, which has a quilted lining and half belt, with a casually tied black scarf. Add Angelina and you've got the perfect ensemble, not to mention the world's most stylish couple.

RSVIP: Brad Pitt and Tina Fey At "Megamind 3-D" Premiere

For children who have everything, presumably not unlike the Brangelina progeny, Maddox and Pax Pitt, and Tina Fey's daughter, Alice, all of whom attended the New York premiere, may we recommend "Megamind 3-D"?

The pitch: It's a spin on the old Superman story, executive-produced by Ben Stiller, far right, who also turned up at the three-story AMC IMAX 13 Lincoln Square Theater on Wednesday. But what if not one, but two superheroes arrive on Earth from faraway worlds? One, Metro Man (Brad Pitt), is taken in by a well-heeled family and ends up working for good. The other, Megamind (Will Ferrell), lands in a maximum-security penitentiary, where his brilliant mind and powers are focused on evil. When Megamind, in blue, an inept villain, wipes out his nemesis, he ends the comfortable historic standoff.

Boredom sets in for Megamind. While attempting to create yet another superhero to fight, Megamind accidentally creates an evil superjerk known as Titan (Jonah Hill).

Tina Fey, above, meanwhile, plays a kind of Lois Lane figure, Roxanne Richi, a possible love interest of all three main characters.

$41,000 Chevy Volt Draws Controversy for Engineering Claims

The Chevy Volt extended range electric sedan is critical to the new General Motors that has emerged from bankruptcy last year, and is about to try and sell its initial-public-offering to investors. But as it unveils the car to the media this week, some critics are blasting the automaker for over-stating the car's fuel efficiency and innovation.

GM has long called the Volt an 'extended age electric vehicle." That made it decidedly different from the Toyota Prius and Toyota's and Honda's other full-hybrids. The key difference, GM has said for three years, is that the gas-fed motor in the Volt never directly drives the wheels of the car. The motor in the Volt, GM has said, powers the battery after its charge runs down, eliminating the risk of the driver running out of power before reaching their destination or a recharging station.

But GM executives confirmed this week that the Volt can use the internal combustion motor under its hood to power the wheels. This fact was first reported by MotorTrend.com, which was allowed to test the car for three long drives. The magazine discovered "...when going above 70 mph in 'charge sustaining mode,' and the generator gets coupled to the drive-train, the gas engine participates in the motive force. GM says the engine never drives the wheels all by itself, but will participate in this particular situation in the name of efficiency, which is improved by 10 to 15 percent."

It may not seem like much, but this does fly in the face of what GM officials have been saying for the last three years as it has hyped the Volt as being an industry leading innovation. The fact that the gas-powered motor can directly power the wheels of the Volt makes it much closer to traditional hybrids already on the market.

Brad Pitt Enjoys Wearing His Patek Philippe Nautilus Watch

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Celebrity Shopping

Brad Pitt, known watch lover, has a seriously intense watch collection. From the timepiece I've heard he buys (and at the frequency he does so), he must have a very large collection. Enough so that each of his kids are likely going to get a sizable timepiece inheritance someday.

Here is Brad wearing his Patek Philippe Nautilus timepiece while doing work with the Make It Right project in New Orleans . This watch debuted in the late 1970s, and came about when luxury steel sport watches really became en vogue. Today's Nautilus watches comes in a few varieties, but Brad likes his in the classic style with a steel case and bracelet, with a blue face, and a three-hand Patek Philippe made automatic movement. Like all Patek Philippe movements, it is beautifully made and decorated - and visible here through a sapphire exhibition caseback window. I like how Brad matched the blue dial with his shirt. The watch is 43mm wide and in all steel except for the while gold hands and hour markers - which are applied.

The Nautilus is an interesting piece - and took a little while for me to appreciate. What really sold the watch for me a few years back was seeing it on the wrist. As you can see, it has a very masculine, flattering look on the wrist. The specific reference number for this piece is 5711/1A, and retails for about $23,000.

The Classicist: The Summer of Superstars Borrowing Superyachts

Filed under: Yachts & Sailing, Celebrity Shopping, The Classicist, Wealth

The other day we reported that Madonna has borrowed Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich's brand new superyacht, the 377-ft. Luna, while filming the new Duke of WIndsor movie she's directing in the South of France. The yacht is fitted out with two helicopter pads, a covered pool, spa, medical center, hot tub and 40 staff, including butlers and a macrobiotic chef. The middle-aged Material Girl isn't the only celeb cadging a ride on a pal's superyacht this summer, however – everyone from Brad and Angelina to the Beckhams are living it up on the high seas, though some stars are actually paying their way. Here's the full rundown on the famous folk's nautical hijinks:

1. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: the world's most famous movie star couple have borrowed Johnny Depp's classic yacht, the 156-ft. Vajoliroja (above), which as we noted in April is available for charter at $130,000 per week, JustLuxe reports. The mahogany paneled craft features accommodations for 10 guests and a crew of 8, a formal dining room, library, plush salon and outdoor seating and eating areas, all decorated in Depp's signature version of Art Deco Paris meets the Orient Express.

2. David Beckham and Victoria Beckham: Posh and Becks have borrowed their pal designer Roberto Cavalli's iridescent 133-ft. yacht, the RC, which features a leopardskin interior, 15 bedrooms, a gym, whirlpool spa and locker full of fur coats for when the weather turns cool. Supposedly Cavalli only allows clothes he designed to be worn onboard.

3. Simon Cowell: The TV star is one of the few celebs footing the bill for his fun, having shelled out a whopping $975,000 per week to charter the 196-ft. Slipstream. The 12-berth yacht boasts sumptuous leather sofas, mirrors above a giant waterbed, a Jacuzzi, an observation lounge with panoramic views, gym, a sky lounge with a retractable roof and a crew of 14 including a private chef.

4. Paris Hilton: The world's biggest party girl is kicking back on Microsoft magnate Paul Allen's 300-ft. pleasure craft the Tatoosh, which as we recently reported has been put up for sale at $160 million. The yacht, which has a pool, hot tub, cinema, basketball court, recording studio, spa, massage room, gym, games room and helicopter pad, comes with a crew of 30. "The best summer of my life," Paris recently tweeted about the trip. "Our yacht is incredible! I'm in heaven on the water. Definitely the biggest and best yacht everywhere we go. Love it! Huge!" Belstaff Bests Prince Harry at Asprey Polo Cup

Filed under: Events, Celebrity Shopping, Charity, Sports

Famed London luxury goods house Asprey's polo team captained by Prince Harry (above, far right) was soundly thrashed by Belstaff's squad at the UK's prestigious Asprey World Class Polo Cup the other day. The Prince played well during the thrilling contest at the Hurtwood Park Polo & Country Club in Surrey, but accepted defeat gracefully, especially as his pet charity Sentebale received part of the proceeds from the match. Belstaff, famed for its leather jackets, also unveiled their brand new polo inspired collection at the event, allowing guests an exclusive first look at the chic and sporty clothes. Some VIPS including the Prince were gifted with items from the new line. Also in attendance at the event were Prince Albert of Monaco, his fiancée Charlene Wittstock, the Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood and several stunning supermodels. Belstaff, founded in the UK in 1924 and known for outfitting stars like Tom Cruise, George Clooney and Will Smith for their action-packed blockbusters, also recently furnished longtime fans Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie with complete wardrobes.

Brad & Angelina Reportedly Buy $40 Million Villa in Italy

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, whom as we noted earlier this year recently spent several months with their children in Venice, Italy (above) while Jolie filmed her new movie The Tourist, have reportedly just purchased a $40 million villa nearby in Verona. The massive Palladian-style estate in the hills of Valpolicella has about 18,000-sq.-ft. of luxury living space divided into 15 rooms with seven baths, Sky Italia reports. The couple supposedly bought the mansion after looking at two other less expensive properties in the area, one priced at $13 million and the other $10 million. "They wanted something more exclusive and in record time to spend the summer vacation in Italy," Alexander Proto of Alexander Proto Consulting, the Swiss property firm favored by celebs, is quoted as saying. In addition to immense size, the very private villa on landscaped grounds is equipped with a home cinema, gym, two swimming pools – one indoor and one outdoor, both with waterfalls – Jacuzzi tubs and acres of Carrara marble.

Black Diamond Serpent Cufflinks by Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie for Asprey

Filed under: Jewelry, Charity, Men's Style, Celebrity Design

brad pitt and angelina jolie for asprey
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have designed an $11,000 pair of black diamond, emerald and white gold serpent cufflinks for famed London luxury goods house Asprey to benefit a children's charity. The luxe accessories are the first item for men in the Protector Collection, the line of limited edition fine jewels and silver objects created by the couple in collaboration with Asprey which my colleague Deirdre Woollard reported on last fall. The design of the Protector black diamond serpent links with 18k white gold bases and emerald eyes is based on Jolie's reflection on the serpent as an iconic guardian and cultural symbol of family protection, inspired by a ring she was given while pregnant with the couple's first child Shiloh in 2006. Each piece in Protector Collection is a limited edition, handcrafted at Asprey's London flagship store in New Bond Street. The black diamond serpent cufflinks match rings, earrings and a pendant in the women's collection. All proceeds from the Protector Collection pieces are being donated to the Education Partnership For Children of Conflict (EPCC). Co-founded by Jolie, the organization raises awareness and funds to educate child victims of war, conflict and natural disasters.

Banksy's Latest Coup: Exit Through the Gift Shop

Filed under: Decor, Auctions, Celebrity Shopping, Art

banksy

What would cause the world's most elusive and most illustrious street artist to make a film with never before seen insights into his own life? To get back at a man who used his name and took advantage of his friendship of course. The art world is abuzz with the latest work from the genius that is Banksy, Exit Through the Gift Shop. While the film is not about Banksy, as the hype would have you believe, it's worth seeing for the rare footage into both Banksy's physical and mental studio.

To tell you straight off, you're not going to see Banksy in the film. You're going to see a hooded figure, face blurred and voice disguised, that may or may not be Banksy, embedding the narration with signature Banksy quips. The most revealing clue into who Banksy is, who some sources peg as Robin Gunningham, is a wedding ring on a male hand, shown when the artist is at work. And that Banksy has a team of assistants, any one of whom could have played Banksy in the film, to help produce the massive work. But trying to peg the identity of Banksy is of course not the point of the film.

What you are going to see is a giant art world hoax surrounding amateur filmmaker, Thierry Guetta, turned amateur artist, Mister Brainwash. There's no information given on how involved Bansky was in the actual filmmaking, although by putting his name on the resulting work, it's clear he directed the narrative into a con story, a con named Mister Brainwash.

Thierry Guetta was a successful L.A. storekeeper who lived with a camcorder glued to his hand. After years of recording his day-to-day life, he stumbled upon something worth filming after visiting his cousin, the Atari-cum-mosaic inclined street artist Space Invader. He followed him for years, leading to his entry into the underground scene, filming the movement's multitude of stars: Swoon, Neckface, Poster Boy, Zevs, and Shepard Fairey. After failing to get any ins toward the most coveted subject of them all, Banksy, Guetta's luck changed when Fairey rang him up one day. Banksy was in L.A. and needed someone to show him around. Following his guidance into where to paint in L.A., Guetta gained Banksy's trust and friendship. As Banksy's entourage didn't contain a more worthy photographer, he began bringing Guetta into his more outlandish stunts, for posterity's sake, including the installation of a Guantanamo Bay prisoner inside Disneyland.

Brad Pitt Spotted in Dolce & Gabbana Gold Edition Sunglasses

Brad Pitt
was just spotted sporting a pair of the exclusive new Dolce & Gabbana Gold Edition sunglasses we wrote about in December while strolling the streets of Venice with Angelina Jolie. The couple and their six children are moving to the storied Italian city for three months while Jolie films her new movie The Tourist. Adding the perfect dash of movie star chic, the Gold Edition aviator-style shades are plated in pure 18-carat gold. Priced at $580 per pair and made in Italy, the sunglasses feature polarized glass and each pair is presented in its own jewelry case featuring a plaque with the words "Dolce &Gabbana Gold Edition" and two tiny side drawers to hold a cleaning cloth and certificate of authenticity. Inside there is a semi-rigid glasses case in black leather, decorated with a tiny plaque and logo. The Gold Edition models are available at ILORI Luxury Sunglass boutiques.

Big Givers Donate To Haiti

The response to the earthquake tragedy in Haiti was almost immediate, and just days afterward, millions of dollars have been raised, a lot of it through small donations of $5 or $10 transmitted through the humble text message. But there's another kind of giving that has emerged too: Single donations in much larger amounts, from the likes of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Olivia Wilde, Tiger Woods, Madonna. Hopefully the list will grow and grow.

Why is it so gratifying though to hear about celebrities making donations? Perhaps because by doing so, they're doing something we've already done, something that thousands of ordinary people are doing. A crisis reminds us that we're all vulnerable, we're all responsible for helping. And that's what it is going to take to bury the dead, take care of the living, and rebuild Haiti.

So when George Clooney asks for your donation tonight, during the Hope for Haiti telethon he is hosting on MTV, you won't just be saying "yes" to an incredibly magnetic movie star, you'll be joining a community of people wanting to help. It's as simple as that. Celebrities undeniably bring some glamour and sparkle to the task of fundraising, and that's okay. It is after all a difficult and serious business. We're lucky to have them.

Check out the gallery below for a look at the amounts donated so far.

Forbes Names the Top Earning Celeb Couples - Jay-Z Way Behind

Beyonce Knowles and Jay-ZFor the second year in a row, Jay-Z and Beyonce (right) have topped a different kind of chart; the Hollywod's Top-Earning Couples list from Forbes. Last year, the mono-household-named celebs earned a combined $162 million, but this year, they earned just $122 million. It's a recession after all.

Or is that really the reason? According to Forbes, when the couple won last year, "about half" came from "each star," whereas this year, Beyonce brought home $87 million (well over half of $162 million), compared with just $35 million from Jay-Z. Far be it from us to call $35 million under-earning, and far be it from Beyonce as well -- the couple famously never discusses their relationship with the press.

Other top earning couples include Harrison Ford and Callista Flockhart, who made bank ($65 million) with Indiana Jones and Brothers & Sisters, respectively, Brangelina, who pulled in $55 million from their film endeavors while raising six kids (and gave a whole lot of it to charity, for example, $333,000 to SOS Children's Villages -- thanks guys), and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, who made $48 million. All out-earned Britain's first couple, David and Victoria Beckham, who made just $46 million.

Come on, Posh and Becks. Jay-Z made almost that much on his own.
