Maverick Nica Sunrise v2 Bluetooth Headset Review

Maverick Nica Sunrise v2 Bluetooth Headset Review
Holy crap most Bluetooth headsets are awful to be seen in public with. Seriously, if you see someone wearing a Bluetooth headset who isn't on the phone, please smack them (for legal reasons I need to remind you not to batter or assault anyone!). Unfortunately, Bluetooth headsets are a necessity for many people. Either you need to drive while talking, or you just don't have enough free hands (I have four of them). So when you must use a headset, it should be one that offers a pain-free experience and doesn't look like you have a techno-parasite hanging off your ear.

Tuna Sets New Record At Tokyo Auction

The first sale of the year at at the Tsukiji fish market auction in Tokyo traditionally brings high prices and this year is off to a booming start. A 754-pound tuna sold for a record 32.49 million yen, or nearly $396,000 in the first auction of the year on Wednesday. That works out to over $526 a pound. The previous record was set back in 2001 when a 445-pound fish sold for 20.2 million yen. The fish was caught off the coast of northern Japan and was one of over 500 shipped in for the auction.

The exceptionally large fish was bought by the owners of Kyubey, an upscale sushi restaurant in Tokyo's Ginza district, and Itamae Sushi, a casual, Hong Kong-based chain. Japan continues to be the world's biggest consumer of seafood, with Japanese eating 80 percent of the Atlantic and Pacific bluefins caught. Many restaurants around the world have taken bluefin tuna off their menus in a response to reports that overfishing is causing decline in tuna stocks. Last year the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas voted to cut the bluefin fishing quota in the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean from 13,500 to 12,900 metric tons annually, a move that was seen as not nearly drastic enough to ease the problem of decimated tuna populations in the Atlantic and Mediterranean.

TriSpecs Bluetooth Sunglasses

Gadgetry just got a little more fashionable with the new line of sunglasses from TriSpecs. The glasses are compatible with Bluetooth-equipped phones and PMPs and have two uni-directional mics and one touch dialing. There are a pair of retractable stereo earbuds that hang at the tip of the temples when not in use which could be either cool or terribly annoying depending on how often you use them and how likely you are to shove your sunglasses on top of your head. Engadget reports that they are expected to sell for just under $200 and come in black, white, and metallic options.

I recently checked out this Bluetooth earpiece at the Apple store, it's a nice accompaniment to the iPhone. The Metal from Contour Design has an aluminum casing and weighs just 0.2 oz. It has Bluetooth features including managing calls to volume control. The Contour Metal comes complete with protective holster for both the USB charger and the headset itself and sells for $79.95.

The New Jawbone

Jawbone Bluetooth headsets just keep getting sleeker and cooler everyday it seems. Of course we started with the original Jawbone, then they gave us the "Love to Talk" limited edition series, and now they've released the new Jawbone that's sweeter than ever. It's 50% smaller than the original Jawbone design and includes all the usual sound technology, plus it features an "invisible button" system that means the user activates controls by touching the headset's smooth outer surface. Available in gold, silver, and black, the headsets look appropriately updated with a funky 3-D looking diamond pattern and optional matching fine leather earloops. $129.99

Plantronic's New Jewelry-Like Earpiece

Here's a Bluetooth earpiece that manages to be quite fancy looking without having any Swarovski crystal or gold plated "bling." The Plantronics Discovery 925 has a unisex VFrame™ design and is available in 3 jewel tone colors (black, gold, and pink) with a cute color-coordinated leather carrying case and charger included. According to this review the features are pretty average, with the exception of excellent audio quality thanks to AudioIQ noise control technology. The Black Onyx version is available now, with the Alchemy Gold and Cerise Pink shipping next month. $149.00

"Love to Talk" Limited Edition Jawbone Headsets

The regular Jawbone blue-tooth headsets were pretty cool, but apparently creator Yves Behar didn't think they were the best he could do -- and it seems they weren't. Now available (in theory anyway, they're really hard to find) is an extremely limited edition collection of 3 Love to Talk Jawbone headsets called "Sweet Talk," "Dirty Talk," and "Trash Talk." Each headset is a different color (gold, black, and white respectively) with a theme appropriate design etched into the surface. Which one would you get? And what on earth is etched onto the "Sweet Talk" headpiece? Is that a flower?

LG Prada Bluetooth Headset

If you are the type who matches their Prada shoes with their Prada bag then you will definitely need this Prada headset to match your ultra-trendy minimalist Prada phone. Not a whole lot is known about the headset except that it seems to have caller ID, a battery meter and a volume indicator. Seems a bit bulky, I still think the red Jawbone is hotter. Basically there is a long, long way to go in making these headsets truly chic.

EarSet 2 For Your Sexy Ear

The quest for a Bluetooth headset that provides excellent sound and doesn't make you look like a total jackass continues. If the Jawbone isn't your thing you might like the rather elegant EarSet 2 from Bang & Olufsen. It uses two omni-directional microphone 30 millimeters apart to capture your voice and filter and suppress wind noise. It also has a neat system for turning on and off, fold out the short microphone arm and it is on, fold it in and it is off. The EarSet2 has a wall bracket that also serves as a charger. It works with the Bluetooth-enabled Serene mobile phone and other Bluetooth phones. It sells for around $300. Audioholics has an interesting review of the device which basically says that if you like the style and don't mind the price it is okay but that it is not overly comfortable and you have to choose which ear you will wear it in when you buy (it's not reversible).

Audex Motorola Dutchess Jacket

If you are a skier and didn't get one for Christmas, you might want to consider getting yourself an Audex Motorola Dutchess Jacket before the season is over. Much like the hat we saw several months ago, this women's ski jacket has a Bluetooth stereo system built right into it. The jacket itself features Thermacore Insulation under a shell of plaid Storm-lite 3.0-E ballistic nylon. It has a removable hood, faux fur lining and collar and, despite having a reasonable amount of bulk that will keep you warm in almost any weather conditions, it has flattering, tapered seams. The Dutchess jacket is $600.

And don't worry guys, there are plenty of men's jackets to choose from, too.

Jawbone, Your New Face Accessory

These days a Bluetooth headset is a required accessory. But the latest Bluetooth gadget makes it both more effective and a little bit sexier. The Jawbone headset was designed by Yves Behar and has Noise Shield technology which promises to eliminate background noise for clearer calls. The headset identifies and isolates your speech and gets rid of the distractions. The headset is available through Cingular for $119.99 and Jawbone has recently come out with a new sexy red headset in addition to the basic gray one. Of course our gadget-loving sibs, Engadget have been obsessively covering this gadget since back in 2004 (but hey, they didn't mention the red one).
