Bentley Continental GTC Speed

Close Up on Bentley's 80-11 Edition Continental GTC and GTC Speed

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

The Paris Auto Show is where the next Bentley Continental GT will be revealed, but that will concern the coupe only. The convertible GTC will continue a while longer while the new body style is prepared for its own fashion show next year. To keep North American buyers enticed, Bentley's dressed up the GTC and GTC Speed in Midnight paint and various accoutrement and called it the 80-11 Edition.

Shown off at Pebble Beach, in addition to their unique hue they both get shiny Union Jack badges on their front fenders, Dark Metallic soft tops and heavy-as-billet Mulliner gas tank caps. When it comes to telling the apart, the GTC gets 20-inch, 14-spoke wheels with black centers while the GTC Speed gets the lighter-weight Continental Supersports wheel in a dark tint, under which reside red brake calipers. Inside, they both get turned aluminum dashes and Beluga leather but the GTC gets contrasting white stitching, the GTC Speed wears Pillar Box Red stitching.

The final thing they have in common: FlexFuel engines capable of running on E85. Meaning the only thing you'll lose with these two is carbon emissions. They'll be arriving in dealer showrooms later this year.

If you were disappointed to learn that the latest limited edition Bentley Continentals were limited exclusively to the Middle East, we've got good news for you. The British prestige marque has announced another pair of specials, these destined exclusively to the North American market.

The 80-11 edition can be ordered on either the Continental GTC or GTC Speed, and upgrade on the standard models with special 20-inch wheels, brake calipers and badging, plus the availability of an exclusive Midnight paint shade. The name is derived from the limited run of 80 models available, and the 2011 model year in which they'll be built.

All Bentley Continental Models to be Flex-Fuel-Capable in June

It may not be the most interesting news you read all week, but we now have a date at which all Bentley Continentals will be able to gulp down whiskey with the best of 'em: June. Well, not exactly whiskey, but ethanol's pretty close. Bentley had made the announcement (sans date) at the Geneva Motor Show when it showed off the Continental Supersports Convertible.

Bentley sees this move as a big first step in reaching its stated goal of offering an entirely biofuel-capable lineup by 2012. In its latest form, Bentley's twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 offers up 621 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. That's sufficient to push the big Conti' to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and on up to a top speed of 202 mph.

As the Continental is Bentley's most popular model line by far, this means that over half of all cars the luxury brand sells this year will be flex-fuel models. For those keeping track, the Brooklands coupe (which will soon be discontinued), Azure sedan and the soon-to-be-released Mulsanne sedan (the replacement for the long-running Arnage) are still not yet biofuel capable. According to Automotive News, the Mulsanne will be E85-capable shortly after its launch later this year.

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Events

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger made a surprise appearance at the Geneva Motor Show today, where he checked out a $230,000 Bentley Continental GTC Speed, the most powerful convertible the marque has ever produced. Accompanied by Bentley CEO Franz-Josef Paefgen, Schwarzenegger eyed all the Bentleys on display but seemed to prefer the GTC Speed, which he sat in and fondled lovingly, MotorTrend reports. The Governator also visited several other stands including Audi's during his whirlwind tour of the show. He has been in Europe this week attending the CeBIT 2009 in Hanover, Germany, billed as the world's largest technology trade fair for digital business solutions and information and communications technology. California is the first U.S. state to partner with CeBIT.
