James Bond's New Bentley

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Books

It may be a while before everyone's favorite spy is back on the silver screen, but fortunately for Bond fans, there's a new series of books to keep our interests piqued. But while 007 drives an Aston Martin in the latest movies, in the books (old and new) Bentley is his ride of choice.

The latest book Carte Blanche is set to launch in the UK on May 26, but its author Jeffery Deaver recently stopped by its setting in Dubai to check out the new Bentley Continental GT in white over red which Bond drives in the book. Not a subtle choice, to be sure, but neither is Dubai. See for yourself in the image gallery below.

Bentley's 2011 Continental GT Says Hello from Oman

The 2011 Bentley Continental GT is being launched in Oman right now, and Bentley has gathered a gaggle of shots of its latest super coupe tanning in the Middle Eastern sun. The second generation of the monstrously powerful and just-as-luxurious two-door will have the familiar 6.0-liter, twin-turbo W12 engine up front, but from next year it will putting out 575 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. You can probably expect the bottom line number on the order form to be increased as well.

Still, for those in search of a frugal-er conveyance that still retains Caesar's comforts, a V8 Continental will come on line next year and it's rumored to produce somewhere around 550 horses from its twin-turbo Audi motor. Or hey, there's no reason you can't get the V12 for yourself and the V8 for your assistant, right?

Bentley Reveals the Torque-tanic 2011 Continental GT

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

The 2011 Bentley Continental GT is just the second generation of the segment-busting coupe that rumbled ashore eight years ago. And frankly, this new one looks a lot like that ancient one, but Bentley wants you to know that this is a completely new car. Outside, the bodywork gets all kinds of massaging: pronounced front fender lines that roll over the headlights and into the more-upright grille; a more pronounced grille treatment that asserts itself into the lower intake; LED running lamps surrounding the main headlight elements; the double-horseshoe rear-end treatment inspired by the Mulsanne and taillights that curl into the rear fenders. For a start...

More substantively, the 2011 Conti gets a boost in horsepower from the 6.0-liter, twin-turbo W12, hitting 567 horsepower and 516 pound-feet. The engine swipes a page from the Continental Supersports playbook and goes FlexFuel, accepting any combination of gasoline and E85. To keep you in touch with that power, Bentley's six-speed Quickshift transmission swaps cogs more quickly and does double downshifts. To keep that power in the right place, the rear track is wider, front-to-rear bias of the all-wheel-drive system is now 40/60, and the coefficient of drag has been reduced to 0.33.

As of next year the nominally eco-conscious can get their Continental GT with a 4.0-liter V8. Numbers haven't been released but you can expect it to register high on the horse and torque while getting much better gas mileage than its big brother.

Perhaps the best upgrade of all: the interior accouterments that now boast an eight-inch touchscreen interface, dynamic navigation and Google Maps. Joining that are a sleeker dash, climate-controlled "Cobra" seats sculpted to provide more rear legroom, and leather-lined door pouches with water-bottle holders. It's everything the current Continental GT is. Only more.

New Bentley Continental GT to be Revealed Online Next Week

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

The 2003 Introduction of the Continental GT coupe marked the beginning of the rebirth of Bentley as a stand-alone luxury brand after its separation from Rolls-Royce. Since then Bentley has introduced a range of new models including the GTC convertible, Flying Spur and Mulsanne that have given the brand a distinct character despite sharing some underpinnings with less Audis.

Next week, Bentley will unveil the new next generation Continental GT in a special online event before it shows up at the Paris Motor Show. Judging from the teaser video Bentley has posted at www.ContinentalGT.com the coupe won't be breaking any significant new ground stylistically. Instead it will be an evolution of current design. The most noticeable exterior change is the adoption of LED headlamps at the front for better lighting that uses less energy. The new Continental GT will be revealed at 10am EDT on September 7.

Bentley Continental GT SnakeSkin by Dartz

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

We know what you've been thinking: I love my Bentley so much I want to cover it in snakeskin, but not the flashy kind I saw on those cowboy boots. (Can we call it, or can we call it?) Fortunately Russian tuner firm Dartz has just the solution for you.

If the company name sounds familiar, it could be because they're the ones responsible for the Prombron luxury sport-utility vehicle. But while the whale-foreskin interior on the Prombron was real, the snakeskin on this Bentley Continental GT isn't. Instead, it's a texture applied to a white vinyl wrap. The interior and wheels have been treated to match, while the rest has been blacked out for a high-contrast, shine-free look.

Limousines and Supercars Debut at Beijing Motor Show

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

The gulf between perception and reality is often enough to swallow entire countries whole. Take China, for example. The images many still conjure up in their heads when thinking about the Asian giant might come down to squalid shanty towns oppressed by communist overlords. But with the free market taking a greater hold with each passing day, the People's Republic is quickly emerging as a vital market for purveyors of luxury goods, including high-end automobiles. Sure, the average peasant may be able to afford little more than a rickety bicycle, but with the world's largest population numbering over a billion people, even the top fraction of the socio-economic strata can overshadow entire nations.

Against such a backdrop, it should come as no great surprise that the world's premium automakers scrambled to the Chinese capital this year with a wide array of exotic and luxury automobiles. In fact the cars making their world debuts at this year's Beijing Motor Show were enough on their own to outshine the last major international exposition in Manhattan. Follow the jump to see what all the fuss was about.

Bentley Unveils Two Special Edition Continentals in Beijing

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

We've got good news and we've got bad news. The good news first, you say? Bentley has presented not one, but two new special editions of its popular Continental range. The bad news? You'll have to go to China to get them.

The long-winded Bentley Continental Flying Spur Speed China takes "the world's fastest four-door saloon" and tones it down, apparently for local tastes, with a softer suspension and a quieter exhaust.

The Bentley Continental GT Design Series China, meanwhile, is based on the coupe and upgrades with a unique interior with three-tone leather, vibrant trim and exterior tint in such colors as Orange Flame and Magenta Metallic.

Both are earmarked and designed specifically for the Chinese market – which has grown tenfold since entering the market in 2002 to become Bentley's third largest – and are being unveiled this week at the Beijing Motor Show.

All Bentley Continental Models to be Flex-Fuel-Capable in June

It may not be the most interesting news you read all week, but we now have a date at which all Bentley Continentals will be able to gulp down whiskey with the best of 'em: June. Well, not exactly whiskey, but ethanol's pretty close. Bentley had made the announcement (sans date) at the Geneva Motor Show when it showed off the Continental Supersports Convertible.

Bentley sees this move as a big first step in reaching its stated goal of offering an entirely biofuel-capable lineup by 2012. In its latest form, Bentley's twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 offers up 621 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. That's sufficient to push the big Conti' to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and on up to a top speed of 202 mph.

As the Continental is Bentley's most popular model line by far, this means that over half of all cars the luxury brand sells this year will be flex-fuel models. For those keeping track, the Brooklands coupe (which will soon be discontinued), Azure sedan and the soon-to-be-released Mulsanne sedan (the replacement for the long-running Arnage) are still not yet biofuel capable. According to Automotive News, the Mulsanne will be E85-capable shortly after its launch later this year.

2010 Geneva Motor Show: The Anglo File

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

You'll have to search long and hard to find a British automaker that's still owned by Brits these days. Bentley? Volkswagen. Mini? BMW. Lotus? Malaysian state carmaker Proton. Land Rover, Jaguar? Indian automaker Tata. But don't think, not even for one minute, that the industry isn't still alive and striving in the UK. In fact some of our favorite automobiles come from there, even if the cashflow is traversing overseas.

With the major motor shows in the UK paling in comparison to the scope of Geneva, the annual Swiss auto salon is – much like it is for the other European carmaking nations – Britain's chance to show the world what they've got. And show us they did. Follow the jump to see how.

2011 Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible Unveiled Ahead of Geneva debut

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Green

Bentley is set to introduce the motoring press to what it claims is the World's Fastest Four-Seat Convertible next month at the Geneva Motor Show. Naturally, that would also make it the fastest convertible Bentley has ever turned out. Like the hardtop Continental Supersports that the British luxury brand introduced a little while back, the drop-top features a twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine that puts out 621 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque whether running on gasoline, ethanol or a combination of the two.

The run from naught to sixty takes just 3.9 seconds, no doubt helped along by the six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system. Keep the go pedal pressed until it's got nothing left to give and you'll see 202 miles per hour on the speedometer. And, unlike the two-seat coupe, you can share the experience with three of your closest friends, each of whom will be ensconced in a lovely leather and Alcantara-trimmed seat.

Pricing has yet to be announced. Check out our high-res image gallery below and see the complete and highly exhaustive press release after the break.

Bentley Continental Platinum GTO by Onyx Concept

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Custom luxury and performance automobiles come from around the world, with some of the best hailing from such locations as Germany, Japan and Italy. Ireland may not be the first place that comes to mind, but Onyx Concept is working to change that with the release of their new Platinum GTO.

Starting with the Bentley Continental GT, Onyx has boosted output up from 553 horsepower to beyond 640, mounted a new sport suspension and fitted 22-inch wheels. A full body kit gives the Platinum GTO a new front end – complete with LED daytime running lights and a carbon fiber splitter – while around back there's a decklid spoiler and diffuser also made from carbon fiber.

No pricing has been announced, but deliveries are expected to begin next month.

Coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera to Launch Bentley Continental Shooting Brake in Geneva

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Earlier this month, we first heard of rumors that coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera planned to introduce a new bespoke version of the Bentley Continental GT. Now, we know that those rumors are confirmed and the vehicle in question will be an interesting shooting brake that will bow at the Geneva Motor Show early next month.

Only 20 three-door estates are planned, and they'll reportedly be built atop the buyer's choice of a regular Continental GT or an uplevel Continental GT Speed. This will be the company's first product based on a vehicle from Bentley, though past models included the likes of Ferrari, Aston Martin and Lamborghini.

We don't have many details on the actual car other than the teaser sketch above and news that there will be two rear seats that will fold independently, making for what we can only assume will be the World's Most Luxurious Six-Foot Luggage Parcel. An electrically operated folding tailgate is also on the menu.

Brazilian Pop Artist Romero Britto paints unique Bentley Continental GT

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Auctions, Art, Charity

Few things manage to demonstrate the difference between cultures as art. Take for example this Bentley Continental GT, donated to the hand of Brazilian pop artist Romero Britto. It may look good to some, and to others an absolute atrocity. Yet Britto's credentials as a renowned artist are known the world over, his works hanging in galleries, museums and prestigious private collections all around the world.

This Bentley will be part of Britto's upcoming exhibit at the Automobil Forum Unter den Linden in Germany from July 10 to September 6, after which it will be auctioned off to benefit multiple sclerosis research and the social integration of the mentally disabled.
