TripAdvisor's Top Ten Hotel Pools

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

If your thoughts are already vacation-centered let me help you on your way. Travel site TripAdvisor has created a list of the top ten most amazing hotel pools from around the world as ranked by TripAdvisor editors and travelers. What makes a pool a top ranker? The view is a major factor, an infinity edge is a help, basically the pool has to transport the lucky swimmer into another world.

The top spot went to the Hotel Caruso Ravello in Ravello, Italy shown above. The hotel is situated on top of the mountains on the Amalfi coast. The 11th century palace has a heated infinity pool that offers timeless views.

Banyan Tree's Latest Resort in Mexico, or is it?

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

New hotels are popping up on Mexico's Riviera Maya as faster than you can say "Caribbean beachfront land grab." The pristine stretch of white-sand beach is perfectly situated close to the Cancun airport and the charming town of Playa del Carmen -- that is, if you ever want to leave your resort.

Luxury resorts like the Fairmont Mayakoba have been populating the Yucatan Peninsula since the lovely Maroma brought luxe (and an amazing spa) to the area in the late '90s. But late in 2007, a new player arrived in the area with a new trick: the private pool villa. The Banyan Tree Mayakoba is a resort with a grand scale -- the buildings feel over sized, the roofs curving up to the sky for dramatic effect -- and its setting, built around a fresh-water lagoon lends an exotic mystique. The only catch with providing guests with such lavish rooms and private pools, is they tend to stay in them.

Banyan Tree Private Collection

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

Traveling can be such a hassle when you have to scope out resorts or hotel accommodations ahead of time, and then they may or may not be what you expected once you arrive. Timeshares are a wonderful way to avoid all that messing around and make jetting off to a beautiful location on the other side of the world a fairly painless process. The Private Collection program from Banyan Tree gives you 1 week per year in a "dreamy" 2 bedroom villa in all kinds of exotic places like Thailand, China, and Italy.

Annual membership dues are $3000, which doesn't sound too bad until you hear the one time fee to join of $120,000. But once you pay that you own the timeshare forever and can even transfer it to someone else (for a fee) if you ever wanted to.

Banyan Tree Planning New Resort in Vietnam

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

The Banyan Tree group has just pledged about $200 million dollars to a new luxury resort project in Vietnam. Located in Thua Thien-Hue province, the complex will cover 500 acres, will feature 6 separate resort-hotels and offer more than 2,400 rooms. The area of the country that the complex will be in has some of the country's most beautiful beaches and a high-capacity seaport that can accommodate large ships, potentially attracting cruises to the area, as well.
