Intermarine 55 by BMW DesignworksUSA

Following similar collaborations with the Bavaria shipyard, BMW DesignworksUSA has teamed up with Brazilian boatmakers Intermarine on a new cockpit motoryacht.

Called the Intermarine 55, the vessel carries three cabins and two bathrooms on board, amongst the other amenities. BMW's design team has focused on a light and airy feel to the yacht, with plenty of exterior deck space while incorporating innovative design cues from their core competence as car designers. Thanks to its unique "ability to create designs consistent with individual brands, as exemplified by BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars," Dassault Aviation tasked BMW Group DesignworksUSA with the job of outfitting the interior of its newest Falcon 7X business jet. The results were just debuted at the European business aviation community event in Geneva, and John Rosanvallon, President and CEO of Dassault Falcon, sounds pleased. He says, "Thanks to DesignworksUSA's transportation design expertise and hard work, the new Falcon 7X interior cabin reflects our goal to define a new level of flying experience."

Sounds like a winner to us. According to Verena Kloos, BMW Group DesignworksUSA President, "DesignworksUSA created the theme of "Elegance and Style fused with Function." Our concept focuses on the sensory elements of the flying experience emphasizing form follows feeling."

It's hard to say what that means exactly, but one of the more interesting design elements has to be the lighting solution, which creates the effect of a starry night sky through the use of what appears to be little LEDs embedded in the ceiling and larger glowing orbs in the valence panels. Looks like a pretty nice place to spend some time while jet-setting to your next chosen destination. Check out the full press release after the break for more.

BMW-designed Bavaria Cruiser 55 Debuts in Majorca

What's an automaker to do when the majority of the earth's surface is covered by water and its clients want to take to the high seas? Design a boat, of course. This is actually BMW's third venture into naval architecture, after its DesignworksUSA studio penned the 60-foot Zeydon Z60 sailing yacht and the Bavaria Deep Blue 46 motoryacht. Now it's back with Bavaria for the German shipyard's new flagship, the Cruiser 55.

Launched this weekend at the Palma boat show in Majorca, Spain, the Cruiser 55 benefits from the latest advances in both automotive design and naval architecture in a sleek 55-foot sailing vessel for those who prefer to take in the salty air with the wind in their hair. After perusing the high-resolution images in the gallery below, we're already imagining leaving a BMW Z4 roadster by the docks and sailing off into the sunset.
