Paul Smith Makes 'Statement' Bar Set for Stelton

Arne Jacobsen's Cylinda-Line bar accessories have been around since the 1960s and the latest incarnation of the design is courtesy of iconic British designer Paul Smith, who has turned the classic set into "a gorgeous fantasy in black." Titled simply 'Statement,' Smith gave the steel a black titanium finish and accented it with his own personal statements, engraved so the letters shine through the titanium in contrasting steel script, that say inspirational things like "take pleasure seriously" and "start something new." The Statement bar set is available in limited edition and includes a cocktail mixer and spoon, shaker, ice bucket with tongs, a two-liter pitcher with strainer, small glass coasters and a serving tray.

City Hall Clock

Simple is often better, and these days it's surprising that often simple is also more expensive. Take this rather plain looking City Hall Clock for example. From Arne Jacobsen it was designed back in 1955 for the Rødovre City Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark. This is one of those situations where I'm sure you could find a more inexpensive look-alike in a department store, but if having an original with the designer's name means something to you then this clock will too. With clean black lines and small circles to designate numbers and minutes, this large but simple clock could make a surprisingly dramatic statement. 17.5" diameter, $441.

Stelton Coffee Service

Arne Jacobsen's Cylinda Coffee Service, designed for the Danish company Stelton in the 1960s, is as impressive today as it was at the time. The landmark coffee server is simple and modern, as are the accompanying sugar and creamer containers, and all are done in satin-finished 18/8 stainless steel. The three-pieces come with a 13-in. round serving tray that has the same finish and, while it is ideal for presenting the coffee service after a meal, is useful for serving anything from appetizers to petit fours. All pieces are dishwasher safe. Price: $470.
