This Blow Oversized Hobo Bag by Alexander McQueen makes a heavy, dark statement but can still be pretty versatile I think. Probably best saved until fall, this bag features black stamped patent leather (it looks very 'slick') and gold hardware in the form of zippers and little hinges that hold the shoulder straps on. It has a button fastener on the top of the inside and a twill lining, and of course (being a 'hobo') it's positively HUGE, so there's plenty of room for whatever it is you need to tote around town. $2,100
The Classicist: From the Queen to McQueen
The history of the illustrious London luxury goods maker known today as Swaine Adeney Brigg goes back over 250 years. They've been supplying various items to Britain's Royal Family for 200 of them, and as those monarchs tend to be a traditional lot, the firm has basically remained unchanged in all that time. However, even this storied, not to say stodgy, company has decided it's time to freshen things up a bit. They recently brought in Alexander McQueen's former accessories chief Dominic Laurelli as design director to give SAB a much needed facelift. Laurelli's first creation is the new St. James luggage collection. Laurelli tells us he drew on the understated elegance of 1920s luxury travel and the great Coco Chanel for inspiration, and says the St. James line is intended to be "synonymous with both traditional English leather goods and contemporary, modern style" (two words seldom heard around SAB). The collection is made from a durable anthracite tweed-like fabric with a water resistant backing and bridle leather detailing.
Alexander McQueen Crocodile Pumps
London born fashion guru, Alexander McQueen is famous for his daring and sometimes shocking designs. This season he revamps the classic black pump, by adding a dramatic squared silver toe. The black crocodile looks fierce paired with the shiny silver, these are some pretty amazing shoes! And as if the 4.5 inch heel isn't fabulous enough, there's also a hidden 1 inch platform! At $1,440 they aren't exactly a great investment, but they're definitly worth taking a second look at. Net-A-Porter.comAlexander McQueen Floral Leather Novak Bag, Handbag of the Day
Between the color, the shape and the intricate cut-out design, there is little not to like about the Floral Leather Novak Bag from Alexander McQueen. The smooth leather making up the body of the bag is laser-cut in a lace pattern, with appliqué butterfly details. The sides and base are reinforced by solid leather, which runs up in a harness shape to the top tab closure and the double handles. The lining is navy and has one zip pocket. All the hardware is gold, including the feet on the base of the bag. Price: $2,085.
Alexander McQueen Woven Circle Bag, Handbag of the Day
The raffia Alexander McQueen Woven Circle Bag is a great hybrid between summer and fall, daytime and evening. The weave actually makes it look fairly casual, but the material's black sheen and the brass accent loops are quite eye-catching at night, not to mention that it is a more useful bag than a tiny, evening clutch. Without a top closure , it is easy to access anything that you might need to get from your bag, and the internal zip pocket will help keep your things organized. Price: $1,720.
And those great silver sandals are by Alexander McQueen, too. They're on sale for $757.50.
Marc Jacob's Spring Trench
Is it just me, or does it seem like the fashion editors at a number of the major magazine suffer from some sort of collective amnesia? You know, some chronic forgetfulness that has them declaring (as though it were some kind of big news) that trench coats are popular garments for spring. Excuse me, but when did the trench coat ever go out of style? (The whole scenario reminds me of being at my high school prom. There was that point in the evening when the prom king and queen were about to be announced, and even though everyone in the audience knew exactly who it would be, we all pretended to be shocked when we heard that the captain of the football team and the head cheerleader were elected once again.)
My complaints about fashion editors aside, this year's spring collections have once again proved my underlying theory: trench coats will be hip until the planet stops spinning.
Now if you're in the market for a trench that will last you until the trench goes out of style (read: the end times), I highly recommend this season's marc by marc jacobs gabardine jacket in natural. With a Peter Pan collar, classic round buttons and a floral liner, this double-breasted trench is as timeless as the trench itself.
Remember, fashion fans: 10,000 fashion editors can't be wrong (except when they are, as in the case of Alexander McQueen).
Alexander McQueen for Puma
The always
innovative Alexander McQueen has teamed up with Puma to bring some high style to the
world of casual shoes. The futuristic line features men's and women's shoes that are definitely ahead of their time. As
previously covered, Alexander McQueen has
expanded his line to include this particular shoe, called the "Anatomical Bone Slip-On." Some of the line is
worth leaving on the shelf, but this pair seemed to have just the right amount of hipster style without being confused
with some design school rejects. Overall, the line is inventive and filled with unmistakable McQueen style that pushes
the envelope for today's casual wear. This pair is available from eLuxury.com for $260
