Absolut Launches New Wild Tea Vodka

Few vodka companies offer the immense selection of flavor varieties as does Absolut. The Swedish distiller offers dozens of different flavors ranging from Mango and Citron to Vanilia and Peppar (a personal favorite for dirty martinis), and has now added one more to the portfolio: Absolut Wild Tea.

The latest Absolut flavor is infused with the flavors of tea, elderflower, red apples and citrus, and has been formulated to mix well with a wide range of sweet and sour ingredients. Absolut recommends using it in a Gimlet with lime juice and simple syrup, in a Cosmopolitan with cranberry juice and orange liqueur, or in a Mojito with lime juice, simple syrup, muddled mint leaves and a splash of soda.

Absolut Wild Tea is making its debut across the United States with dedicated launch events in Chicago, Miami, New York and Los Angeles over the next month or so, and will be available nationwide with an MSRP of $24.99 for the liter or $19.99 for 750 ml.

Absolut Launches Absolut Glimmer Holiday Packaging

Absolut Vodka has unveiled its newest limited-edition holiday bottle. Absolut Glimmer has the look of a cut crystal decanter. The bottle has gone through many different wraps and colors over the years but this is the first time that the bottle itself has been altered. The bottle is made of pressed glass mimicking the look of classically cut crystal. The 750 ml bottle sells for $19.99.

Spike Lee Designs Absolut Brooklyn Bottle

Director Spike Lee is the bottle designer behind Absolut vodka's latest limited edition flavor, Absolut Brooklyn. The bottle features a depiction of a brownstone with the number from Lee's childhood home in Cobble Hill and bears his name on the bottle. Inside the bottle is a vodka flavored with apple and ginger. It has a retail price of $29.99 . Each of the city editions of Absolut has a charitable initiative attached, as part of this campaign Absolut is donating $50,000 to Habitat for Humanity to help fund an affordable homes project in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Previous city editions included Absolut Boston (black tea and elderflower), Los Angeles (blueberry, acerola cherry, açai berry and pomegranate) and New Orleans (black pepper and mango).

An Absolut New York Evening

Before Jay-Z took the stage on September 11 at Madison Square Garden, the sponsor of the concert, Absolut vodka, hosted a reception at the Garden's private clubhouse. I accepted the invitation not only because I knew the concert would rock - and it did! - but because I was curious to find out how Absolut vodka positions itself these days.

When I started my career in the mid-1990s, Absolut was the only brand I knew to ask for when I ordered drinks with my girlfriends. But when those outings turned into dates and toasts over promotions and engagements, it seemed like there was always a new fancy or unusual vodka to try (potato? organic?). Still, in my mind Absolut remains tried and true, with that royal blue lettering and beloved clear bottle. When ordering flavored vodka, I've never asked for any other brand.

Headed to the reception, though, I realized my Absolut knowledge was sadly out of date. I could not recall what had replaced the legendary ads featuring artist-decorated bottles, the campaign that had cemented my loyalty: In high school, I plastered the pink walls of my bedroom with those ads, carefully torn from my parent's magazines.

In the comfy confines of the Garden's wood-panelled clubhouse, I quickly got up to speed thanks to Alisa and Kris Wixom, who both work on the Absolut campaign for TBWA Chiat/Day New York.

Absolut Rock Edition

Absolut Vodka's latest adventure in packaging is celebration of rock music. The Absolut Rock Edition will go on sale next month at Selfridges of London before becoming more widely available in October. Absolut collaborated with designer Natalia Brilli to create the leather and studs design. To celebrate the bottle the vodka company held a launch event in Berlin showing guitars and other Natalia Brilli designs. Music at the event included Wolfmother, Smith & Drums and DJ Alex.

Kanye West Spoofs Self in Absolut Vodka Ads

Endless self-promoter Kanye West -- who proves he has a sense of humor about himself after all -- spoofs his persona in a new line of Absolut ads. The first time I saw the print ad (which looked like, but didn't have the Absolut references, what you see here), I didn't get it at all, and I had no idea what was being advertised. A little research showed me the light. I can't show you much here, since you need to be 21 to get into these sites. Log on and check them out for yourself. And don't lie about your age -- it's bad karma.

Absolut Vodka Launches Los Angeles Flavor With "Star" Controversy

Anyone who has walked along the Hollywood Walk of Fame lately knows that certain stars have definitely seen better days. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has taken a new approach to raising funds to restore the Walk. They have created the Friends of the Walk of Fame initiative to restore the Walk of Fame before its 50th anniversary in two years and they've hooked their first big sponsor, Absolut Vodka.

Sponsors won't get an official star but according to the press release "sizable donations from corporate supporters will be acknowledged with a Friend of the Walk of Fame honorary star" which is described as a "new terrazzo piece that will be placed in the sidewalk, on private property, adjacent to the Walk of Fame." The Chamber presented Absolut with the first honorary star which will be located near the entrance to the Kodak Theatre, part of Hollywood & Highland Center on Hollywood Boulevard.

Certainly corporate sponsors are a familiar sight on baseball fields and other public landmarks but the LA Times reports that the news of Absolut's pseudo star isn't sitting well with everyone. Some see it as an affront to the tradition of honoring Los Angeles luminaries with their own piece of sidewalk space.

Absolut is also launching a new flavor, Absolut LA, a mix of "blueberry, acai berry, acerola cherry, and fruity notes of pomegranate" which will be available this month.
