De Beers Creates Unique Window Display In Japan

The world of 3D has come to diamonds. De Beers has created a special exhibition in the setting of world famous department store,Isetan, in Tokyo. The Art of Diamond Jewelry exhibition will run until July 21st in all the windows of Isetan, giving customers an insider view of De Beers Diamond Jewelry through photography and multimedia displays. A specially created 3D film by Holition, leaders in advanced 3D technology applications for retail, and Pointy Stick brings the magic and allure of the jewelry to life in a new way. The 3D film is shown on a customized screen that doesn't require 3D glasses. The stereoscopic display is a first for Japan and the jewelry world.

Holition, Online Shopping's New Virtual Tool

One of the big problems with online jewelry or watch shopping is that you don't get the pleasure of seeing what something would look on you. A new company called Holition seeks to change that with a 3D virtual reality application which basically acts like a mirror. It merges the jewelry on the screen into a real-time video of the person so that the piece looks like it is actually on you. All you have to do is be in front of a web cam and wear a simple marker. The pieces can then be swapped out at the touch of a button. It's not going to replace the thrill of going into the store and trying things on but it does offer a new level of interaction in the online experience. The product was debuted at this year's Baselworld and the recent Coutts jewelry week in London. This isn't the first virtual shopping experience to be offered but it is appears to have the potential to be a lot more satisfying than using a virtual model. Watch the All Star Game in 3D

Want to make points with your basketball loving sweetheart this Valentine's Day? Select movie theaters around the country are offering a LIVE 3D HD presentation of NBA All-Star Saturday Night on February 14, starting at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT. Turner Sports, which has televised the NBA All-Star Game for six consecutive years on TNT, is collaborating with the NBA and Cinedigm to bring this 3D HD presentation exclusively to select theaters throughout the country. Theaters will also offer contests and prizes, opportunities to text and to vote on the winner of the Sprite Slam Dunk contest while taking in the super crisp, every-bead-of-sweat-falling digital coverage. The first sporting event to be broadcast publicly in this digital cinema format was the BCS College Football Championship on Jan 8, 2009 and the All Star game is the second event. 80" Holographic HDTV is, yep, the first ever

Wow. I mean Uber-Wow. We've seen our cronies over at Engadget report on a range of ridiculously cool holographic technologies lately, but nothing this big, impressive or, most importantly, actually available. What's being dubbed the "Uber-Graph", this 80" pane of glass acts as a medium for a holographic projection television, and is completely customizable to the buyer's specifications. The Uber-secret technology traps little bits of light at certain angles whilst all other light just passes through it. And voila, your image is floating in mid-air.

We don't know how much the 80-incher will go for (check out the eBay page here), but it looks like the 40-incher is retailing for £14,995 (about $28,500 US). And, if current market pricing trends are any measure, doubling the screen size can easily mean quadrupling the price. Which sucks, of course, for those of us who were otherwise really looking forward to a new condo this year.

V2 3D Wallpaper

Wallpaper is the new... paint? Instead of leaving walls as solid colors, no matter how bright the color choices are, more and more people are opting to give their homes a further degree of interest with wallpaper. There are an almost unlimited number of patterns to choose from, but for a really unique look, textured paper is the way to go. MioCulture's V2 3D Wallpaper can give a room more than just the appearance of texture. The wallpaper comes in square "tiles" that are made out of 100% recycled paper. The pattern on the tiles extends 2.5-in. from the wall at its highest point and, by varying the tile positions, you can create a fantastic array of designs that will please the eye and "interact with space around you."
