New watch brand
W&F based out of Prague has recently revealed their first watches - the 101.1 and the 102.1. Influenced by modern sculpture art, the pieces have very unique looking dials and cases that have a hand-made feel to them. Actually, they are hand-made - with that being written right on the dial (at least on the white colored dial). The dials themselves are done in enamel, each applied in a unique manner. The periphery of the dials have lume dots for the hour markers. The real interest is all in the hands. The hour hand looks like a futuristic Frisbee flying through the air, while the minute hand looks either like a strange colored lipstick container or a bullet. The watch dials certainly are artistic. Whether or not you like them is a matter of taste, but reading them is another story.
W&F stands for "Wei & Friends." It is hard not to think that W&F was influenced by MB&F "Max Busser & Friends," for the brand name. The watch cases themselves are in steel and 44mm wide (12mm thick). Inside the watches are hand-wound Swiss ETA Unitas 6498 mechanical movements. I like the large off-centered crowns. These timepieces remind me of what UTS timepieces would be like if they suddenly had a thing for modern art. Prices for these W&F watches will start at 1,790 euros.
