'I Had an Atheist Wedding' {Lemondrop}

Jun 23rd 2010 10:26PM Atheism is just an excuse to deny any type of authority in one's lives. Disobedient, defiant attitudes in anyone, at any age, under any circumstances, will always result in unhappiness. What is this couple's basis for LOVE if they don't recognize He who actually IS love? The verses the author references in 1 Corinthians (chapter 13, verses 1-8) that are commonly referred to as "The Love Verses" describe exactly what love is: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
These scriptures are God inspired. So if this couple arrogantly denies the existence of God, then surely they must deny this definition of love, the very basis of marriage. I wonder how they rationalize that?

Two year old left at Chuck E. Cheese, family doesn't notice for 2 days {ParentDish}

Jan 10th 2008 2:58PM I knew I had heard something like this before....I did a quick Google search and found this story out of FL from a couple of years ago...almost IDENTICAL to this latest incident. What is wrong with people?? Almost sounds like an easy attempt at their "15 Minutes of Fame"....

Child Left At Chuck E. Cheese's To Live With Relatives

POSTED: 8:27 am EDT June 7, 2006

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A 6-year-old boy who was accidentally left behind by his mother after they celebrated his birthday at a Chuck E. Cheese's restaurant will temporarily live with relatives while the state determines whether he can return home.

Michael James Emanuel Jr. has been in state custody since Saturday night. His mother, Lacqetta Monroe, has said she didn't notice he was missing until Sunday morning. Each relative at the party thought the child was with another family member, they told police.

After a hearing Monday, Palm Beach County Juvenile Judge Ronald Alvarez ordered the Department of Children and Families to determine whether relatives were suited to care for the child while it is decided if he can eventually return home.

The child was scheduled to be handed over to relatives Tuesday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

Monroe, 23, remained under investigation by the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office. No criminal charges had been filed.

Employees at the Boca Raton-area establishment called police Saturday night after no one claimed the boy.

Diane Duvall, an attorney for the boy's mother, has declined to comment outside court. The state Department of Children and Families also declined to comment, citing the confidentiality of juvenile cases. Monroe's telephone number was not listed under her name."

Go out with a bang: Fireworks on your wedding day {Aisledash}

Dec 7th 2007 11:47PM I live on the Gulf Coast of FL and the companies I have used for weddings charge about $1000/minute. That includes the insurance (as mentioned by the above poster), the placement of the barge in the water, and all permits needed, in addition to contacting all the necessary parties (local fire department, coast guard, etc.).

I agree with Andy....a little bit of fireworks goes a long way! 5-10 minutes is great. Anything more is overkill.

Groom's cake: Southern tradition or reception necessity? {Aisledash}

Oct 7th 2007 11:45PM I am a wedding planner (in the South) and I would estimate 95% of my brides have had a groom's cake. While I agree that it tends to be of the chocolate variety, it often reflects the groom's interests/hobbies/career. We've done it in cheesecake or even tiramisu form if that happens to be the groom's favorite. It really seems to end up being an homage to the groom and his personality and tastes. I frequently have brides who design it as a surprise for her groom. As far as when it is served, I personally think the rehearsal dinner is the perfect time, although most of the time I see it cut and served at the same time as (or immediately following) the wedding cake. You'd be surprised how many guests ask for "just a little of each". Leftover cake is often boxed up and sent home with either guests or the parents (frequently served the following day during the Day After Brunch). I have heard of the tradition of giving it to the single guests to put under their pillows, but I believe that to be a very old fashioned, antiquated trend that is no longer done, even in the Old South! :)

'Flat buns' TV ad has teachers fuming {ParentDish}

Sep 11th 2007 12:49PM I saw the ad during the day (not after 10PM as previously stated) and as found it completely rude. Had the subject of the boys' "affections" been someone other than a teacher, I still think it would have been tasteless. HOWEVER, there is a huge lack of respect for authority in our country today and ads like this do NOT help that fact. Not to mention that once again, a woman is being objectified by men (in this case BOYS). Hardees/Carls Jr. clearly has a lack of moral judgement in its advertising campaigns. I don't think its a matter of being overly sensitive....I think its a matter of pushing the envelope and doing anything to get noticed by a consumer audience.
As the mother of young girls, I am so tired of having to monitor COMMERCIALS. We rarely have the TV on as it is, and certainly not aound our children during adult programming...when did sporting events (collegiate baseball/football, NASCAR, etc) become ADULT programming too??? Nothing is sacred these days.

The McCune Mansion, Estate Of The Day {Luxist}

Jul 31st 2007 10:05AM Clearly for the recluse or the agoraphobic buyer. No reason to ever leave home and associate with the outside world when you've got your own hair salon!! Good grief. There is a difference between "luxury" and absolute greed.

I agree with Spectator...give all the interior fixtures to Habitat for Humanity and bring on the wrecking ball. A few beautiful, tasteful, luxury homes on that site would be a much better investment.

Would you leave your baby home alone? {ParentDish}

May 31st 2007 10:58PM I used to be pretty paranoid but over the years I have relaxed a bit. I have 3 girls, have my masters in education and think I am a pretty good Mom. I personally think a lot of Moms these days worry entirely too much about their children and their safety and as a result, we often smother both ourselves and our children. Of course abductions are possible, but we need to remember that we live in the age of Hollywood Drama, mass media and Amber Alerts. How many people actually KNOW someone who has been directly affected by a child abduction in a normally safe situation (ie: child snatched from their own bed).
According to current US statistics, "last year 300 children accidentally drowned, some in their own bathtub. 203 children died from injuries while riding their bicycle. 733 died of pedestrian injuries, such as simply crossing the street. And the granddaddy of them all, auto accidents, claimed the lives of over 15,000 children last year". Children are 4 times as likely to die from simply riding their bike! The truth is, her sleeping baby was probably safer than the other 4 at the pool!!
Had the woman's house caught on fire, she would have heard the smoke detectors on the monitor.
I say give the woman (and yourselves)a break.

Toddler solves Rubik's Cube in 114 seconds {ParentDish}

May 26th 2007 12:12AM Wow! Prety impressive. One question....why is a child who is smart enought to crack the Rubik's Cube sitting in a HIGH CHAIR??? That was all I could think about the whole time I was watching it! Funny!
