Acura admits RL needs help {Autoblog}
Feb 22nd 2006 3:54PM A major source of this problem is Acura's lack of prestige. The fact that they sell so many cars (RSX and TSX) at pricepoints below $30k undermines their status because that pits themselves against economy brands.
The TL sells so well because at $35k it is a great car and offers $35k worth of cache. At $50k, however, they are going against some of the most revered cars on the road, such as the Mercedes E-class, BMW 5 and Jaguar S-type, and the name "Acura" does not hold itself up against them. Now with Infiniti and Lexus being considered true rivals against the Euro brands, Acura is left out of the viable flagship arena.
