The Cat's Meow: a Jaguar painted to look like... a Jaguar {Autoblog}
Jan 19th 2009 8:58PM This car actually belongs to a cousin of mine in Nashville. I've heard about its, ahem, unique look, but I've never actually seen it before. He's a bit of a collector, and, as I recall, this was his favorite.
The Lower 9th: Reefer madness {Blogging New Orleans}
Sep 13th 2007 11:22AM The possibility of legalization aside, the true issue is not whether or not it would be profitable for the city, it's what kind of effect would it have on the city?
New Orleans is already known for it's anything goes attitude toward drinking, and as someone who lived there for a while, I can say that that reputation has caused enough problems for the Crescent City. From a tourism perspective, the belief the New Orleans is the greatest place in the country to get wasted already attracts plenty of the wrong kind of attention. Throw in legalization of marijuana, and you risk creating a situation where the very worst of the pot culture becomes mainstream. I'm not talking about the occasional smoker who sees it as an escape (I have reservations about this group too,but that's not the point), my concern is the small percentage of people who long to get baked all day, with no contribution to society. In the situation New Orleans is in right now, this would do more harm than good.
Add to that the impact this would likely have on business. The local business community (not to mention businesses considering relocation to New Orleans), typically a more conservative demographic, would likely be discouraged from participating in the revitalization of this great city if they were concerned that what was being built was the American oasis for pot smokers. In all honesty, localized legalization probably has far more detrimental effects (for the specific area) that a national legalization would (not that I support either).
And finally (I know this is long) I wonder about the reaction of legalizing something that has been illegal for so long. While in time things may normalize, the first few years of legal marijuana use would almost certainly lead to dramatic over consumption. Remember when you got your first fake ID, or you had a friend who could get you booze or cigarettes? Didn't you go a little overboard for while before you realized that you were going too far?
These are just the thoughts of one individual, but I do have deep feelings for New Orleans, and I want to see it return to life as a cultural capital of the world, not the pot-head capital of the country.
The Beatles don't go on {TUAW.com}
Sep 5th 2007 5:26PM I think it'll happen this year, but I don't think it will be announced at a major event. Look for a press release, a banner on the iTunes store and Apple.com, and probably a TV spot or two. I don't think Apple's going to try to make a press event out of it, unless they have something else to announce.

Aug 7th 2007 9:29PM Savannah? Charleston (Mount Pleasant) would be the more logical choice. I could also see one in Greenville, SC or Asheville, NC.

Jobs Using iPhone Already? {TUAW.com}
Mar 8th 2007 9:32AM Okay, so he said himself that he was going to use it in public. It's settled. Yes, he uses the phone that the company he presides over created, even before it has been released (or formally approved by the FCC).

I'll never forget the first time I ordered one.

Server: "Trust me, you want the chili."
Me: "Ah what the heel, bring on the chili."
Best omlette I ever had.
Beatles on iTunes? Finally? {TUAW.com}
Jan 17th 2007 9:35AM One thing seems to have gone over everyone's head. Jobs is a big Beatles fan. He's said so in interviews. From that we can assume that he owns a few Beatles CDs, and being the CEO of Apple, I bet he knows how to rip them to iTunes. I have lot's of Beatles on my iPod, and it all came from CDs.
