Martha Stewart and Kmart: Putting on appearances {Daily Finance}

Oct 18th 2009 4:32PM C'mon people, trashing Kmart and/or Martha Stewart doesn't make you sophisticated. Kmart is a self-service discount store. The staff is paid near minimum wage, and as a result, that job is often their first. But, as can be seen by all of these hate-filled comments, the public is inconsiderate, self-centered and, more importantly, has unrealistic expectations if they don't realize "you get what you pay for." You're not paying for service (customer service or otherwise) in these stores...so face it. The cheaper cuts of meat are the toughest...just know that and either avoid them, or quit your bitchin.' Kmart at least offers lay-away. Wal-mart did away with that, and turned their back on their original, small-town (rural) customers...many of whom have no more than a sharecropper economic status. But Walmart has taken their billions and is now concentrating on their newest and best customers: The Chinese. Not satisfied to just buy from them, now they are selling to them as well. So, bottom line...discount stores are just not a comforting topic.

GM to shut down Saturn brand {Daily Finance}

Sep 30th 2009 10:33PM That's a shame. Saturn started out on the right note, but they didn't get to evolve. They should have used the opportunity of the roarin' '90's to forge their own identity, but didn't.

I liked the Saturn products, I liked the dealerships and I liked their casual but professional staff. I liked that there wasn't a lot of "pretense" to buying a car from them. Their biggest issue was that they never became innovative. They never had a high-line luxury car (though the Aura is the closest they ever came, and that's only because it's a Malibu-twin), they never had a "sporty" car, never really had a "family" car and never had a good quality "economy/first car" to offer.

I really thought if Penske could get someone to build them (and use Toyota or Honda motors)...they could have lasted as a U.S. Company for years. I will say I'm sorry for the loss of jobs and the loss of money for the dealers. God Bless America?

Wal-Mart staffs up {Daily Finance}

Jun 5th 2009 5:43AM I'm not an overall Wal-Mart basher. I see both sides. The fact that they pay low wages is consistent with the fact that they also hire just ANYONE. So, you get what you pay for...no scrutiny on their part for finding the "best."
My beef with WalMart is the fact that, although they call their employees "Associates" (as if to infer a comfortable relationship between the executives and the rank-and-file), but WalMart turns their back on both the employees and the nation, when it turns out that most of their employees get their health coverage via Medicaid, and the fact that the stores (the only place their employees can shop) are the modern-day equivalent of the "company store" that allowed coal mines to recoup their miner's pay by the mere fact that they took in as much from their employees as they paid them. There is no winning as a WalMart "associate" as I can see it. However, as a consumer, I like their prices. Customer Service is non-existent (because no one receives training at all), but that's OK...they're mostly pleasant at the registers.

Hot Seat: Can Clinton Win Nomination? {Politics Daily}

May 11th 2008 8:54PM For those folks who say one person can't win when neither has the majority...you're talking politics, folks...any scandal can surface and ruin a career.

I'm sure you guys aren't the ones who manage baseball teams, or there would never be a game go the ninth inning. You microwave-minded generation of whackos...it ain't over til it's over.

Bobby Clampett on 'Chinaman': If I Offended Anybody Please Accept My Sincere Apologies {Fanhouse Golf Blog}

Apr 12th 2008 12:07PM I'm an American Man. I wouldn't have a problem being categorized as such...in fact, I am with the Census. So, how is that offensive? "Name of country one originates from," PLUS "sex of subject" does not = prejudice! You idiot blogger you.

Apr 12th 2008 12:05PM For all of those "victims" out there...do yourself a favor, seriously, and seek professional counseling if you constantly feel "insulted" in this world. I'm a minority, proud of it, and I embrace all of the community support I've had in my life. A politically incorrect comment cannot undo all that has been done for me. I'm thankful for my life in the US, my freedoms, and my countrymen. Believe that or not.

Apr 12th 2008 12:00PM Here's another example of the press castigating someone for being human. We're losing freedoms by being free, thanks to the always present "victims." I think what we need to look at is "intent." Did he intend to slur an entire race? NO. It wouldn't be in the best interest of his employment, for one. If he was on a racial tirade, then, yes, make him apologize. But when I look at the stuff the talk show hosts get away with in their monologues, what the rappers get away with in their lyrics...it gives me pause. I pray for this country. And get medical help if you constantly see yourself as a victim, or being insulted. It may be an internal problem.

Obama/Clinton Ticket Can and Must Happen {Politics Daily}

Mar 29th 2008 8:21PM I think Obama, while a good speaker, is too unproven to be the President. He hasn't paid his dues, and to be quite frank, I'm a bit put-off at his having expressed how offended he is by the notion. The guy needs a reality check. I also know there is a fierce, but invisibile money machine pushing him...and that also makes me suspicious. We in Illinois were told what a wonderful politician he was before he won his first elected office. He's someone's creation, but whose is unknown. I think he should be VP and then try to be President. I do know that Hillary (and Bill) are sheer geniuses when it comes to economics.

Romney: Hunting Bin Laden Not Worth It {AOL Elections Blog}

Apr 29th 2007 11:48AM In response to comment number one: Interesting how many Republicans are still conviluting today's issues with criticisms of past presidency's...such as how this critic thinks that going back 8 to 12 years to point-out deficiencies with the Clinton's eliminates Bush's obvious (ahem) "inadequacies" (and to categorize Bush's lack of honesty, lack of intelligence and lack of representation of his constituents - hell, the entire nation - as mere "inadequacies" is far more generous than I should be). Especially when critics such as #1 go back and re-visit that old saw - "Clinton played to the polls" (which, by the way, was Rush Limbaugh's contention that all you ditto-heads subsequently adopted) - well, if "playing to the polls" means that those in-charge change their stance to better reflect the feelings of the USA's citizens...I'm all for it. That's what Bush's problem is...less than 3 out of 10 now support this war...more than 7 of us think he's wrong...and he's in a pissing match with his own citizens. We must recognize the tactics of this megalomaniacal mental deficient and put others in power who will hear our too-often disregarded voices.
