Feb 7th 2013 9:04PM Unfortunately, Mr. Carvelli doesn't have a clue what caused the housing bubble during the middle of the last decade. No one "forced" the banks to make all of those subprime loans...they did it because they were making a fortune doing it! The banks contracted to buy all of the subprime loans that the mortgage bankers could originate. The banks then pooled these loans, sliced them into "tranches", got them mis-rated by Standard & Poors, Moodys, and Fitch as AAA paper, and then sold them to pension funds, university endowments, and mutual funds seeking higher yields on triple A paper. The banks made money on the origination side and on the sale side, they didn't care if the loans were any good or not because they wern't going to own them for more than a few months. The way these loans were structured with super-low teaser rates, there was no way they would go into default until after they were sold. If Greenspan had taken the time to find out what was going on, instead of offering more "free market" platitudes, maybe he could have prevented the disaster.

Apparently, Southwest hasn't fallen into this trap. Companies like Southwest need to be rewarded with our business whenever possible.

Dec 17th 2010 6:06PM I am completely astonished and horrified that ANYONE would consider Sarah Palin a legitimate presidential candidate. She makes for a good joke on comedy T.V., but beyond that she would be the laughing stock of the civilized world. Marge Simpson would make a better candidate.
