Jun 1st 2007 4:43PM As a long time rabid football fan (I even watch reruns of the CFL games on WorldSport HD) I just hope that these guys know that they are in this for the longgggg haul and not just trying to cash in right away like McMahon did with the XFL. I watched the XFL. It got pretty good toward the end (the games) but the sideshow atmosphere of the broadcast with Jesse Ventura and the Hot Tubbing models in the end zone killed the chances of the league being taken seriously. However, the steady cams on the field and the players nicknames on Jerseys were nice touches although I thought the steady cams were a bit overused. I don't want to be in every huddle...but one or two per quarter is fun.
Bonus? Mark Cuban can take a cut on broadcast rights on his HDNET stations if need be thus assuring extended television time if weak initial rating and NFL pressure force other cable companies out of the UFL market.
Added Bonus: With Millions of users everyday turning to Google, that is instant advertising power that rivals the NFL having it's own network. And a banner on every search page in America is a lot more cost effective than your own 2nd rate (there I said it) cable network.
Added Bonus: So far, the people involved have really serious money to invest in the long haul.
Drawback: All these guys are used to fairly quick returns on their investments

I am pleased to see that the US is finally starting to recognize that OPINION is not NEWS. Ann Coulter is not a journalist. She is a commentator. I personally listen to Randi Rhodes on AirAmerica every chance I get. But as well researched as she is I don't mistake her as a journalist. Funny. Yes. Entertaining. Yes. Thought-provoking. Totally. But a left wing commentator all the same.
Make no mistake. Editorial writers are accountable for their opinions and can be dropped/fired by their employers. Maybe this will put a stop to the constant name calling and intimidation on both sides and we can concentrate on the issues facing this nation right now.
