Sep 15th 2011 1:35PM Not surprised. If you are not from Western Europe or North America your credentials are ALWAYS suspect. I don't trust the age of any age group athlete not born in the above countries nor do I trust the documentation of ANY person but US, Canada, W. Europe, period. And I am the most liberal guy you will ever meet.
I was talking to a guy from Nigeria recently and he casually told me that when his family immigrated they ALL shaved three years off of their ages to "adjust" for cultural differences. UHHH. A person from Ethiopia told me an identical story. I know a guy from Brazil who is years older than his stated birth and educational claims are basically false as his middle school "burned" down. All records were lost. UHHH? I know a woman from Panama who claims to be 26 but her hair is graying like a 30+ year old..don't believe her story either.
Living in NYC you meet all kinds of south of the border fakes but what can you do? It's official when it is stamped official. This Ms. Universe woman has lied (like the DSK woman) but what difference does it make. It's a dumb obsolete pageant. The officials will ignore whatever scam she has pulled because they don't want the bad publicity.

Jul 23rd 2011 5:45PM The assumption that a 65 year old person would have terrible fashion sense was at the root of my comparison of Helen's career to Jessica's. But apparently Jessica has a lot of fans that will defend her tiny talents. Basically Jessica is a pinup girl and Helen is a serious actress.

Jul 23rd 2011 12:25AM The ridiculous part is you responded to my comments with out taking a look at the headline that directed me to the page. Themisleading headline, "Was Jessica outdressed by a 65 year old"? seemed to ask the question of how could someone like Jessica, a modern, stylish women be possibly outclassed by some 65 year old woman. So after finding out who the 65 year old lady was I was kinda annoyed that someone would reduce Helen's achievements to that of Ms. Alba. Hell yes, Helen could outdress Jessica, and Jenni from the block as well as Eva and whatever star of the month you can come up with. You name the event. My message is you can learn a LOT from the elders. Don't dismiss people just because you think they are old. And why can't I compare Helen's career to Jane Fona or Louise Brooks or Mira Sorvino or Denise Richards? Think about what you wrote. Don't compare actors from different era's to each other? How silly is that?

Jul 22nd 2011 9:06PM So the premise of this article is, can a mid level starlet be upstaged by an accomplished, debonair A list actress who has won: an Academy Award for Best Actress, four SAG Awards, four BAFTAs, three Golden Globes, four Emmy Awards, and two Cannes Film Festival Best Actress Awards? My answer is yes..Heck yeah.
Who is Jessica Alba and what has she accomplished on the big screen and small screen that could even give her the ideal that she can carry Helen's handbag? Jessica is not a style icon nor any great actress of talent of great merit.
Her major accomplishments? Alba was ranked No. 1 on Maxim magazine's Hot 100 list. Playboy magazine named Alba among its 25 Sexiest Celebrities, and the Sex Star of the Year. AskMen.com voted Alba No. 1 on 99 Most Desirable Women, while again, in 2007, Maxim Magazine placed Alba on the number 2 spot of their "Top 100". FHM (UK and USA editions) named Alba the winner as "2007's Sexiest Woman in the World".
Her movie credits include Camp Nowhere and The Secret World of Alex Mack and the lead actress in the television series Dark Angel, Honey, Sin City, Fantastic Four, Into the Blue), Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Good Luck Chuck.
So when you compare the two resumes only a fool, or someone who is related to Ms. Alba, would dare suggest that Helen is a second rate style master compared to the youngster. A 65 year old indeed. Helen Mirren is one of Hollywoods most talented and unassailable talents. Please. Ms. Alba is not even in the same league.
Folly Beach, South Carolina: The Country's Greatest Fourth of July {Gadling}
Jul 22nd 2011 12:05PM I moved to Folly Beach back in the late 1980's, just in time for front row seats to Hurricane Hugo. At the time Folly suffered from a second rate syndrome due to the popularity and upscale appeal of Sullivans Island. It was also a gay destination point due to it's beauty and low key appeal. Great place for beach viewing but I have to mention that it was perhaps the most racist place I have ever been to in my life. The people who lived there were closed minded and made my life miserable.
There were a few people who recognized that many of the police officers, who used to follow me from block to block when I went to work in the morning, were not responsible public servants and worked to change this but overall the place was a fertile racist holding tank.
Although one officer approached me unexpectedly and made a genuine apology for the actions of his colleagues, (which touched me deeply) I still find it hard to have positive sympathies for this part of the South Carolina low country.
Could not wait to move to the city of Charleston proper, which turned out to harbor a lot of the same characteristics. Folly Beach great place to visit in the daytime, "Be out of town by sundown". (actual quote from the acting sheriff at the time to one of my friends).

I read these stories about the visiting royals and can't figure out what any of this nonsense means. As far as I can tell it's all a pr campaign to keep the royal family legitimate to a current public. Oh and it seems like a big fashion show for the new princess.
How can any true republic loving American swoon over these people and their self serving charity group, The American Friends of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry. Now exactly what does that mean and what can anyone of you name quickly what is is that this charity does??????????? nah. didn't think you knew.
