Mar 28th 2009 9:01AM T-Mo is saying the number of apps is running about 2900 right now. The relatively crappy quality of the App Store UI is probably one of the biggest drawbacks. Development is certainly about a thousand times easier on the G1 (and I've done both).
Mar 17th 2009 1:14PM No shots of this garish interior?
Mar 14th 2009 12:40PM It isn't really related to the pool story, but when I see these stories about these huge projects dropped into the middle of a desert, I always wonder... how do they keep the dunes from just building up and burying the city from the outside in? I guess this pool must have some pretty great filters...
Mar 13th 2009 1:59PM The FAILS just keep coming... after telling me their computers were down and she'd call back in an hour (which took three hours), the rep announced that my credit card couldn't process the charges for the discounted accessories (uh, what?) but gave me a toll free "accessories hot line" where I could supposedly order them. So basically I'm getting the phone. Supposedly.
Just for laughs I called this accessories hot line (I figured I could at least hassle them over the advertised free extras), and my speakerphone has been playing awful easy-listening hold music for over an hour now.
This Wirefly operation is like the poster-child for a crappy outsourced online-purchase experience.
Mar 13th 2009 10:08AM It's still a good price and their turn-around is about one day (versus Amazon telling me it would be about a month), but they WILL NOT honor the free stuff listed on Deals2Buy. Their outsourced script-driven Indian support/ordering service won't even discuss it, but they'll aggressively push their "discounted" accessories (which actually are discounted to fairly decent prices). But free loot -- Nope.
Kind of sucks...
Mar 13th 2009 9:26AM Bah... the store reps (I called three) are telling me it's against corporate policy to price match or to change the phone price for any reason. I then talked to a very friendly but very stereotypical Indian support person (on a god-awful noisy connection) at Wirefly and they said turn-around time is about 24 hours. So -- Amazon gets canceled. One month doesn't cut it in 2009...
Mar 13th 2009 5:15AM Shipping is less than impressive. I placed an order yesterday (3/12) with the free "2-day shipping" ... and I just received an e-mail estimating that I'll receive the phone within about one month. WTF?
I think I'll cancel this and try the in-store price-match thing mentioned above.
Mar 12th 2009 9:27AM The real question is whether the Cuban manufacturers will be able to ramp up quality fast enough to match their reputation. These days probably only a few true Cubans are as good as their non-Cuban competitors (having smoked more than a few while traveling outside the US).
Vinay: African countries? You may wish to consult a map.
Mar 12th 2009 9:21AM "Similar to a graffiti tag"... LOL, now that's some quality writing. Is the eagle on the back of the quarter similar to a tattoo, perhaps?
Mar 10th 2009 10:37AM So the earlier reports that the Centenaire features significant performance enhancements was incorrect (some were quoting an amazing top speed approaching 275 MPH and 1350 HP is commonly cited), or is this author simply unaware of that aspect of the Centenaire?
