Hello, My Name Is Richard And I'm A Nonconformist {Queer Sighted}
Feb 18th 2007 1:49AM Richard,
Good column. When are people of this world going to realize that homosexuality is no different than being a blond or redhead, or being right or left handed? It is just a part of being human, of being a person. I well remember how it was growing up in the 50's and 60's. We were hated, considered freaks of nature, diseased, evil. I like so man repressed my true self till about ten years ago. Even though I am still not out to my immediate family for the same reasons mentioned above I have never felt so free or more true to my real self than the first time I said to another person "I am gay!"
Keep up the good work.

Feb 18th 2007 1:40AM As one who grew up in the 50's and 60's the non-conformity you speak of, was more of a forced conformity. Being homosexual was a sickness, a perversion, such people were often cosidered a freak of nature(I know, some poor souls still think that way). Coming to grips with my homosexuality was the most difficult thing I have ever done and still, after nearly 10 years I am not out. Much of my family still hold the views stated above. However, despite this substantial obstacle I have never felt more free and more true to myself than the first time I did say outloud, "I am gay!"
Homosexuality is no different than being right or left handed, a blond or a redhead, tall or short. It is one small aspect of being human, being a person. Somehow we must find a way to help everyone understand this simple truth of nature.
