Emma Watson Channels Mia Farrow With New Haircut {PopEater}

Aug 5th 2010 3:32PM I'm not one for short hair on women, but I must say - she looks PHENOMENAL!!! She's known for being a bit of a fashion icon for her generation, and I've no doubt that girls are going to be chopping off their locks in droves to follow suit. (Please, girls: make *sure* this is what you want BEFORE you do it. Not everyone looks this great with this cut, and it will take forever to grow it back!)

The Makeover Diaries: A Mother of Three's Makeover-haul {Stylelist (Main)}

Jul 11th 2010 12:24AM I call shenanigans...

I don't care how many years there are between pics, you can totally see where her natural hair stops on her right side (just above the neckline on her blouse), and you can make it out on the left side, just not as prominently since she has her head tipped to the right. The color of her natural hair is different due to her highlights, and her extensions aren't highlighted. Frankly, since they're not blended in well, it totally looks like clip ons. While it seems pretty obvious that her NATURAL hair is longer in the second pic, and she probably did grow it out several inches, I'm going to borrow a quote from one of my favorite aunts: "That ain't all her."

It's fine that she wanted to give herself a make over, and fantastic that she shared her story, but I think full disclosure is appropriate when posting an article like this. If you went and got extensions, fine, just say so. Omitting an important fact like that totally undermines the credibility of the author. Boo!

Summer Trends -- The Outfits We Hate Seeing Guys Wear {Lemondrop}

Jul 4th 2010 6:00PM Mandals with socks. Ick. *gag* OH. MY.

If you're feet are that nasty that you have to wear socks with the sandals:

A) Go get a pedicure and clean those nasty dogs up. Tip the person who is brave enough to touch 'em GENEROUSLY. I don't care how many feet they touch as a work hazard, if you keep them that wrapped up that you find yourself wearing socks with sandals, kindly compensate the person accordingly. (*shudder*)

B) Put real shoes back on if you won't get a pedicure. What the eff is the point of wearing the sandals if you won't take off the socks? If you decide to venture into the realm of naked feet, please see item A.

Seriously? This has to be the most unattractive look I have ever seen. Like those icky, strappy, velcro sandals need one more thing to make them even more hideous. Dudes - there is nothing wrong with having your piggies buffed, filed, softened, and cleaned. In fact, it says a lot about your personal hygiene, and the ladies like man-feet that don't have dragon nails attached...they won't hurt us under the covers, and don't snag the satin sheets!

Beauty Foods: Nutritionist Lisa Drayer Reveals Best Foods For Skin, Hair And Nails {Stylelist (Main)}

Jun 21st 2010 8:39PM Annoying...how many times can the woman (who sounds like she's calling in to do a phone interview) say the word "and" when she's starting a sentence? How many times can Grace Gold say the word "sure" (which sounds like she's saying "shu-ore", totally creating a new, two syllable word)?
How many times can both of them say "right"?

Perhaps I'm a little bit nit-picky, but that clip didn't give me any new information and merely annoyed me with repetitive speech patterns. *sigh*

John Goodman Looks Better Than Ever! {PopEater}

Jun 11th 2010 5:02PM I am SO happy to read that he's lost weight, he was looking VERY unhealthy previously, and this is certainly work that is going in the right direction. However, I'm hoping that his weight loss isn't the result of an illness, but rather healthier choices in regards to his lifestyle habits. I sincerely wish that this would have been clarified in the article. That kind of weight loss in the absence of a positive statement about the person's health always worries me...

Teenage Sailor Abby Sunderland Feared Lost at Sea {Fanhouse Main}

Jun 10th 2010 3:10PM When I first saw the reports that she wanted to attempt this, and that her parents condoned it, I was shocked. This girl is not old enough to make adult decisions for herself, nor emotionally mature enough to keep composure during a life threatening incident. While I strongly believe that she is a very intelligent person AND emotionally mature for her age, she is only, after all...16. I had sincerely hoped that her parents would make the right decision and put their child's personal safety ahead of acheiving notoriety. Additionally, some other young people have been in the news recently for accomplishing (or almost accomplishing) this same feat, and while their attempt(s) were successful (or almost successful, as the case may be), it is far too dangerous an endeavor for such young souls to undertake.

I pray that she is found safe, and that parents realize their job is to keep them that way until they're at least 18. After that, they can sail 'round the world solo as much as they like.

Claudia Schiffer in Dark Makeup and Afro - Offensive or Edgy? {Stylelist (Main)}

Jun 4th 2010 12:41PM Come on, people...

Robert Downey Jr. sported make-up and wig(s) to make himself look African-American in Tropic Thunder and people loved it. Remember the film, "White Chicks" where two African-Americans made themselves look like (yep, you guessed it...) white women? Did anyone have a problem with that? (Yes, the movie was awful, but I didn't see their transformation to white women making the news outside of features highlighting the hair and make-up process to do so).

As someone above me pointed out, she is also made to look Asian. It is a fantasy photograph, a piece of art, a what-if...they're all beautiful hypotheticals of what Claudia *might* look like if she were born with a different ethnicity. I have no problem with this at all.

Latisse, the Lash Growth Drug - I Tried It! {Stylelist (Main)}

Apr 18th 2010 10:59PM I'm a HUGE bimatoprost fan and advocate - this stuff is absolutely wonderful and not at all that costly once you achieve the initial results. The first tip about using the eyeliner brush is spot on - I can make a bottle last two months (easy) with that method - one drop will cover both eyes (top and bottom lash lines) PLUS both eyebrows (yep, it works on eyebrows, too!). Buy a good eyeliner brush, quality helps, and it will pay for itself within a few uses. So, we've just cut that $120/month price tag in half to $60 per month. But, it gets better! In addition, once you've acheived those long, dark, lustrous lashes, you can cut back to applying your Latisse to every second or third night - making your monthly application cost anywhere from $20-30/month. If you think that's great, I'm not finished yet... If you find a doctor that is savvy and willing to help defray the cost of those fabulous lashes, you can get a RX for generic bimatoprost - and spend as little as $25 or so per bottle (even less if you order from a highly rated overseas pharmacy - they DO exist!) Remember, lots of meds are routinely used off label to treat various conditions that they've not been formally approved for - there is absolutely NO difference between Latisse and generic bimatoprost. Since insurance does not cover Latisse and you will pay for it out of your own pocket, you may be lucky enough to find a doctor who will write you a RX for generic bimatoprost. Some docs are totally down with this (kudos to them, BTW, for making a great cosmetic tool available at a reasonable cost - shame on Allergan for jacking the price of said med up from $13/bottle to $120 due to their marketing campaign and some horrible brushes). In fact, some dermatologists were prescribing bimatorpost and timoptic for lash growth long before Allergan had even thought about marketing it as Latisse.

Furthermore, the studies and statistics quoted for side effects (itchy eyes, eye color change, hyperpigmentation, etc.) were conducted in patients who were applying bimatoprost DIRECTLY INTO THEIR EYES FOR GLAUCOMA. With Latisse (a.k.a, bimatoprost used as directed for eyelash growth), these side effects, which were 96% absent in those patients, are reduced even further as you are NOT putting the medication into your eyes. In fact, I've done quite a bit of research and haven't uncovered a documented case of eye color change in anyone using Latisse as prescribed for lash growth.

Now for my own testimonial: I've been using Latisse for five months. I'm a fair skinned, blond haired, green eyed woman with naturally light, fine lashes. I noticed a difference in my lash growth the first two weeks of using Latisse. While I'll never have super long, incredibly dark lashes, Latisse has dramatically lengthened, thickened and darkened my lashes - so much so that I can't see myself without Latisse - ever. I can actually see my lashes in a mirror from across a room without mascara on for the first time in my life. All of my girlfriends are asking me what mascara I'm using. I use Latisse about once every two or three nights now, and my lash length, thickness, and darkened color are maintaining beautifully on this regime. I've never experienced a side effect.

Why 'Healthy Hair' is a Myth {BV Hair Talk}

Mar 21st 2010 9:12PM Your hair only "grows" out from the folicle. Anything past that point is DEAD, and does NOT grow. We've all been conditioned (no pun intended) to think of hair as an active, growing thing - it is not. The only way to achieve the most attractive hair possible for YOU is to eat well and take care of the hair that has grown out of those folicles. A person with bad genetics (sorry, is there another way to say it? How about, "People who weren't blessed with the hair genes!"?) may only have thin, lifeless looking hair that comes out of those folicles regardless of how well they eat, condition, and take care of the dead stuff growing out of their folicles. No amount of conditioner, supplements, vitamins, or hundred dollar shampoo can fix THAT.
