Here's the bit from the New York Times: "As such, the company does not intend to stop with bodysuits, which are playfully adorned with Disney characters like Simba from “The Lion King."" I have no reason to doubt the New York Times' fact-checking; and a quick Google search shows a number of pure white bodysuits with a large Disney tag on the seam. I'd be interested to see the giveaways that have no logo or branding.
And simply because Our365 sells photography packages does not controvert my claim that they are a marketing company. I am surely not the first person to claim this; activist groups describe it as such and the company's own web site describes its services thusly: "Our relationship with parents doesn’t end in the hospital, however. We provide moms with ongoing parenting advice and community, carefully screened offers from trusted brands..." if that's not marketing, I don't know what is.

Dec 8th 2009 12:46PM Jennifer: yes, you should tell me, but I reserve the right to squeeze my eyes shut and sing "lalalalala" as you do ;). how do we tell our kids 'no, I know all the other kids get those toys but I'm worried about your brain and immune system' (without them rolling their eyes)? it's such a problem.
I woke up this morning with a renewed commitment to make my kids most of their toys out of all natural, recycled materials -- and avoid polar fleece at all costs. but even then, chemical dyes and other treatments in so much of the cute reclaimed fabric I have... sigh...

Feb 13th 2009 5:29PM great post and an honest story, Geoff: I too was behind on my mortgage several years ago, similar circumstances, and I think at some point you just see the payoff notices and want to shut your eyes and put your fingers in your ears and start singing LALAlalalala! we were 180 days behind when the vultures started showing up offering to buy our house at a screaming deal. luckily, we had a lot of equity and were able to work out a deal with the mortgage company. but it was amazing how quickly you can go from one month to four months behind and then have no. idea. how to dig yourself out.
now the priority is groceries, mortgage, and everything else, in that order; but it's also true that your power, water, gas and phone seem far less negotiable and, in a pinch, it's hard to ignore the lights going out in favor of writing a check to some faceless bank.

Would you trust a pregnancy test from Dollar Tree? {WalletPop}
Jan 26th 2009 11:52AM ha. seriously? why pay extra for a bunch of fancy plastic and neat little doohickeys that say "pregnant" and "not pregnant"? the pregnancy tests at the dollar store are cheaper b/c they're not so convenient to use, but the basic chemistry is the same.
i've used 'em! and they were correct.
in fact, some women who are struggling to get pregnant and testing a lot buy little strips in bulk online for less than a dollar apiece.
