Oct 9th 2007 8:59AM The reason we don't have prayer or the ten commandments in school is BECAUSE we have Freedom of Religion. Christians would not like Muslim teachers leading children in prayer to Allah. Protestants do not want Catholics leading their children in prayer to the Virgin Mary. Those in the Jewish faith do not want teachers praying "in the name of Christ". You get the picture. And most of us would be up in arms if an Atheist refused to pray and told her students WHY. My daughter prays all the time...to God...quietly. And there is probably not a teacher of faith who DOESN'T pray for their students. The law is against authorities leading students in prayer and it just makes sense. Parents have the right to raise their children in the faith of their choice...or no religion at all. It is part of our reason for seeking autonomy in the first place. We did not want anyone telling us HOW to worship. Why is this so hard to understand?
