Zyken's NightCove provides a pricey better night's rest {Engadget}

Feb 17th 2007 10:54AM Reading the blog comment thread, we'd like to share some clarifications:

NightCove doesn't produce light during sleeping time but only for a short period of time (personalizable by the user) when falling asleep and when waking up.

Leveraging LED technology, NightCove is able to create an optimal lighting environment in the evening (when reading or wanting to fall asleep) that will not have any negative effect on melatonin secretion (unlike traditional bulbs and halogen lights).
Zyken has worked with a committee of sleep science and light therapy experts to make sure that NightCove complies with and leverages the latest sleep & light scientific studies.

Zyken conducted a scientific validation study carried out by an independent research company. The study confirmed the efficiency of NightCove to provide better quality sleep, more energy in the morning and more mind clarity in the morning. The results of this study were presented at a prominent European gathering of sleep experts back in October 2006.

NightCove's 'high' price point is based on functions (including personalization) + quality + design for 4-5* hotels and upscale homes.

NightCove Circadian Clock {Luxist}

Feb 14th 2007 1:51PM Dear Nicole,
This is a great post!
Just one thing that would be important to correct regarding the post: all the aspects you mention are correct except that NightCove doesn't 'fade(s) in and out during the night to correspond with REM activity'.
NightCove doesn't produce light while sleeping but only during the 'falling-asleep phase' and the 'waking-up phase'. Other room environment parameters (like temperature, air) can be adjusted during sleep but not light. Light during the night could indeed have a negative impact on the biological clock.
