Feb 3rd 2007 8:53PM Believe it or not, the NFL may have a legal leg to stand on... When you see the notice "no part of this NFL program may be rebroadcast without express written consent of the NFL" etc. etc., plus a copyright notice, they have a legal right to pick and choose who rebroadcasts it. 501c3 churches cannot legally rebroadcast copyrighted material publicly without permission. They _can_ show certain movies and project copyrighted song lyrics on a wall, but only if those movies/song lyrics are covered under the church's CCLI License, or if the church has received separate written permission. Different rules apply to private home viewings and superbowl parties than apply to 501c3 registered non-profit businesses like churches. For the record, I'm a born-again Christian who would like the church to stop breaking all these copyright laws. It's counterproductive to the message they want to put out.
