PD*Poll: Students vote autistic 5-year-old out of class {ParentDish}
May 29th 2008 1:39PM You'd think with all the money we're throwing at the public schools ($8000 per year in my school district), that they would come up with better ways of dealing with students. I personally was diagnosed with Asperger's at age 41 in 2003 (Asperger's wasn't known in the English-speaking world until 1981). Looking back, I showed signs of Asperger's when I was in school, I believed it worked to my advantage then. Since I was rather withdrawn, it kept me out of trouble with the teachers. I spent 11 1/2 years in the Oak Hills Local School District in suburban Cincinnati, Ohio from 1969 to 1980, when teachers were allowed to take students out in the hallway and beat them on the rear end with a wooden paddle. Thanks to Asperger's, I managed to make it through school without getting a "swat" (although I was once threatened with one when I forgot to put a paper cover on one of my textbooks). Personally, if one of my kids got a "swat" I would file an assault and battery charge against the teacher with either the Delhi Township or Green Township police.

May 26th 2008 5:08PM Wot the bloody 'ell is 'er problem? Seriously, I see a pathetic mama's boy who is going to end up getting 'is arse kicked in school or being put through 'ell in school if any of the other boys found out. Does he have to bring Mom to school with him so she's there when he's hungry? Sick bastards, I just 'ope the boy doesn't end up a 'omosexual. I just hope he is weaned before he becomes lactose-intolerant.

Which country smokes the most? {Gadling}
May 13th 2008 9:09AM If Kentucky were an independent country, where would it rank? It's amazing how backward smoking laws are there compared to Ohio.
Baby Names Being Derived from...Text Messaging? {Switched}
Apr 1st 2008 5:18PM I'm surprised that none of these names use the "@" symbol like an e-mail address or is that the next trend? For simplicity, maybe the parents can name their children after the license plates on their cars. I read a book from the "Pedro" series about some boy scouts who found a time machine. Their friend from the distant future was "KBZ 10 Troy" or "Kai" for short. Is this going to be the next trend?

Mar 2nd 2008 11:49AM What the hell is with kids today? I remember when I was a high school senior in 1980, I couldn't (and still can't) get a contact lens in my eye. The thought of injecting ink in my eye is so creepy that it is difficult just reading the article. When I went to the dentist last week, I raised my hand for more Novacaine when I began feeling any pain. Are they getting any kind of pain killers when they are having this done or are they already stoned and don't care?

Feb 16th 2008 3:18PM It seems such a waste to tear down a perfectly good house, especially since so many people are struggling to make payments on far more modest homes. Maybe it's time for us ordinary people to stop wasting our money on these celebrities and their movies and music, and invest it in OUR homes so we don't foreclose on our homes. Fortunately for me, there have been few movies and music albums released in the last twenty or so years worth spending money on.

Feb 9th 2008 10:39AM The biggest problem I see with electric cars is finding a long enough extension cord to get me from my house on the west side of Cincinnati, Ohio to my job in Norwood in the eastern side of town. Seriously what happens when you run out of "juice" on an expressway. With a gasoline or diesel engine, it's simply a matter of going to a service station and getting a can of fuel. With an electric car how would you charge it up and how long would it take? The only practical electric vehicles I've seen are the electric busses in Dayton, Ohio with the overhead wires, but they don't go as far out from downtown, as the diesel busses do. One thing I learned from the Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, was at the beginning of the 20th century, auto-makers were experimenting with gasoline-,electric-, and steam-powered cars and gasoline won out because it was much more practical.
