Mortgage Rates Jump After Hitting Record Low {AOL Real Estate}
Oct 16th 2011 3:53AM "The average rate on the 30-year fixed mortgage rose sharply this week after falling below 4 percent for the first time in history."
What are they talking about? I refinanced my house for 3.75% (down from 7-something) ten years ago. I bought only the amount of house I needed, paid extra every month, and sold it for a reasonable price. Then I used all of the improvements I had made to turn it into a capital loss for taxes. I was fortunate in having a real estate agent who told me that if I made just one extra payment a year, my 30-year mortgage would be paid off in 15 to 20 years--even without the refinance.

Apr 10th 2011 3:56PM It's just trash because that is what you watch. Try the History or National Geographic channels. HBO has some great programming besides the trashy movies and has produced some on its own. You just have to look for it. Watch Thurgood or Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. But you look for trash and that is what you get and unfortunately people like you create more trash.

Opinion: What's Up With All These Out-of-Control, Bullying Parents? {ParentDish}
Feb 25th 2011 3:50AM I remember a day when my child was uncontrollable. I put him in the bathtub to try to calm him down and when that didn't work I hauled him out and wrapped him tightly in a blanket. It turned out that he had severe allergies and this behavior was a common symptom of that. Some of these parents think their children are supposed to always be perfect per their standards, to always do what they are told. Those kids are never going to grow up to take care of themselves.

Feb 24th 2011 11:30PM Penny auctions are a HUGE ripoff--don't fall for them. You have to first pay a fee for each bid and then compete against others who think they are going to get a new car for $35. And each bid on that car incurs another fee. You end up spending a ton of money in fees and getting nothing.

Feb 17th 2011 1:07PM oz: 50 years ago I went to a doctor because I was depressed, having trouble sleeping, and was very tired. The doctor said, "You're just depressed--just stop being depressed." So I dropped out of college before I could flunk out and it wasn't until a couple of years later that I found out I had a thyroid deficiency. 50 years ago we didn't know what we do now about depression. If I don't take my Paxil, I will cry about anything and everything. NO, I WAS NOT FINE 50 YEARS AGO.
