Nov 6th 2010 11:35PM I have had cats all my life. They were all spayed or neutered and never had a problem. We also had 5 dogs. I now have three dogs. Our cats were also indoor/outdoor cats. The only cats I ever heard yowl and howl at night, were the ones outside, in heat. Every single cat owner friend of mine have had the same experience. If you have a cat who is yowling at night, and it is fixed, NOT in heat, then may I suggest it is smelling a female cat in heat. If you live in a populated area that has many feral cats, there could many. Cats can smell females in heat for long distances.
