Mar 7th 2011 6:12PM Your point is well taken. However, for folks who do want to buy a home, especially, since it is a FIXED asset and cannot move to Florida or, technically, be stolen. You default, the lender forecloses. It used to work, but for the indefinite future (until the real estate glut dissapears, and supply and demand are equalized to a reasonable margin, it will be necessary to immediately get your good credit re-established.
The ways to do this are well put in this article. For your own sake, however, make sure your house payment is never more than 30% of your gross net income. That way it will survive debacles like the one we are still struggling to overcome, and you will have a really affordable housing payment.
