Starter Cookbooks - The Hungry Bride {Slashfood}

Apr 27th 2009 8:00AM My favorite is the 1961 edition of the Betty Crocker New Picture Cookbook ...

The pictures & line art are a little cheesy and dated by now ... But, Betty was one helluva cook ...

There's basics as well as fancy dishes in it ... And the cookies have been a constant favorite for as long as I've been baking ...

You can find the cookbook on eBay ... Last time I looked, they had the hardback spined book as well as it in a 3-ring binder format ...

Spring Grilling {Slashfood}

Apr 21st 2009 5:34AM My friend in North Pole, Alaska has already started her grilling season ...

Anytime it's above Zero degrees F, it's good for grilling & bbqing ...

Suzanne Sugarbaker Cocktail {Slashfood}

Mar 18th 2009 11:59PM I would've thought the drink would've had something like Peach Schnapps and Bacardi 151 or something similar ...

Something that looks all sweet & delicate like a Georgia peach ... but then it punches you in the gut like Suzanne Sugarbaker would often do (esp if you scorned her) ... LOL

Michelle Obama Wants You To Eat Healthy {Slashfood}

Mar 14th 2009 11:05AM For people on a limited income, fresh (or frozen or canned) produce is often out of reach ... It's even harder for them to acquire organic produce ...

Most people don't care what one woman in DC says about eating ... Unless she comes to your home & gives you the food for free, she won't make a difference ...

People will always eat what they want to or can eat ... And parents will always have a problem at one point of the game getting their kids to eat healthy ... One woman's NOT gonna change a thing ...

Now, where did I put that package of Double Stuf Oreos ??

Dakar scrutineering, in pictures {Autoblog}

Dec 3rd 2008 3:54AM Oh bleep!!

There was no 2008 Dakar in Africa ... They changed it to Europe ... And Versus showed the 2007 Dakar when the 2008 should've run ...

I don't know why I keep thinking it's run in December ...

Dakar scrutineering, in pictures {Autoblog}

Dec 3rd 2008 3:17AM dukeisduke -

There was NO Dakar in 2007 because of terroristic threats from al-qaieda in Northern Africa ...

So, Versus ran the 2006 Dakar shows ...

The 5 Weirdest Things in my Parents' Cupboards {Slashfood}

Dec 2nd 2008 3:11AM My mom would put Alum in the homemade playdough ... I think it helped it stay soft & plyable ...

Funny Face drink mix was way better than Kool-Aid and Flavor-Aid ...

Too many good things have been banned by the FDA ... dang them ...

Robert Irvine to Return to 'Dinner: Impossible' {Slashfood}

Nov 20th 2008 3:58PM YAY !!!!!!!

FogleTusch should've punished that idiot Mark Summers for not researching Irvine's resume ... and NOT punish the viewers ...

John Besh or Aaron Sanchez should've won "Next Iron Chef" ... Not Michael Symon ...

Symon looks too much like some sleazy mechanic ... esp with his work shirt and that piece of carpet on his chin ... Plus, his souz chefs aren't exactly the look one would hope to see in a kitchen ... LOL Symon's voice is beyond grating ...

I lost any & all respect for the network, Summers & Symon with the "Kosher Seder Supper for Passover" episode ... esp when Idiot Jed ripped open his shirt & showed his pig tattoo to the Rabbi ... Geez, ya got any tact boy?? It was just too painful to watch and the idiots re-aired it last night ...

At least with Robert Irvine, he would explain the different cuisines to the viewers ... so we got an idea of what we'd see and why ...

Robert may have stretched the truth on his resume ... But, his knowledge & cooking chops backed him up on getting the job done ...

There was an article earlier this year in one of the Seattle newspapers about the wedding reception that Robert / D:I did in Kirkland, WA ... for the bride who's father was very sick ... Even though Robert & the wedding coordinator lady had some issues, everybody agreed it was a great experience and enjoyed working with Robert & the D:I crew ...

Say good-bye to the bake sale {Slashfood}

Nov 10th 2008 5:29PM The problem is NOT the baked goods / snacks / soda ...

It's the LACK of exercise the kids get at school and home ...

When I was in K-12, the schools had chips / soda / candy / cookies / ice cream ... all of the so-called contraband ... But, we had less than a dozen kids in my jr high that were considered "overweight" (and this was in a school of about 1100 kids ... In high school, their were about a dozen or so overweight, but that included the football team ...

Granted, that was about 25 yrs ago ... and we did NOT have the computers / video games that just about every house / school has ... The schools nowadays spend the money on computers and then cut out phys ed, but bitch about kids being fat ...

The idiots who want to ban all of the contraband food are just teaching the kids that they need to go covert for the snacks ... IF it's "illegal" in the schools, a lot of them will get it elsewhere ... Why else do they think that there are now "candy dealers" in the schools who'll sell ya a Mr Goodbar on the sly ??? And the "candy dealers" are making money ...

Get the kids off their butts & moving ... There'll be fewer fat kids ... Teach the kids about "moderation" ... By banning this stuff, the schools ARE punishing the kids ... Plus, the staff wants the same stuff too ...
