Latisse: The Lash-Growth Drug. Top Questions, Answered {Stylelist}

Feb 9th 2009 4:30PM Bimatoprost works great for increasing the length, thickness and pigmentation of lashes, so we are confident that Latisse will too. It is also helpful for eyelash transplant patients who have their upper lids transplanted and want to increase the quality of their lower lashes--of course, this is an 'off-label' use since Latisse is fda approved only for the upper lid.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.

The Laurie Berkner Concert {Blogging Niki}

Apr 10th 2007 8:17PM Glad you enjoyed Laurie's show. I took my wife and two boys (6 & 4) to Laurie Berkner's show here in Boca Raton, FL at the Mizner Ampitheatre last month (March 25th, 2007). If I was Laurie Berkner, I would be embarassed to charge that kind of money for a huge ampitheater show and bring just a small table of props. The clown from my kids birthday party last year had more equipment. No video screens, no scenery, poor sound, no audience interaction---boooorrrrinng! Who could even see what kind of hat she was wearing--I guess unless you were in the third row?!? We were less than half-way back, but still couldn't see much at all. Of course we knew all the words, but COME ON! The kids were begging to leave half-way through. It would have been fine if the show was in your living room, but with 800+ people?? Did she interact with the audience when you saw her? All she said to us was some comments about how we should drink some water (it was a pretty hot day). Did I mention that the water was $5 and the lemonade was $8?? I think the tix were at least $35 + $7.50 (handling) each. What a rip. Rent the DVD and watch it on your tv instead. You would think for that price, they would have rented some equipment (like a video screen) so the kids could at least see her dance around a little. The picture I took of the show from our seats was hilarious--it looks like a flea-circus, you can't see a thing--LOL. If you run into her at the airport again, tell her we said 'hello' and mention that if she's going to charge top concert prices, she should bring more than just her guitar and some hats. Whaddaya think of that?

No More False Eyelashes {Luxist}

Dec 11th 2006 10:27AM Tiki,
I am responding to your comments regarding the 'look' of the transplanted lashes shown on Good Morning America. The "after" photos shown on ABC's GMA story were taken immediately after the procedure, while the lids were still a little swollen and slightly bruised. The healing process typically takes a few days. Normally, we would wait 6-12 months to photograph the 'final' result from the eyelash transplant. Eyelash transplantation cannot restore ALL of your lashes with a single session yet, however, even just thirty to forty lashes can make a HUGE difference, because they grow very long. Because the implanted eyelash follicles are harvested from the scalp, the resulting lashes will need to be routinely trimmed and curled. During the procedure, meticulous attention is given to the position, orientation and curl of the transplanted lashes to ensure that the resulting lashes look beautiful. Initially, there is some swelling of the lid which distorts the angulation of the implants during the initial healing. Eyelash transplants do require routine care, so they are certainly NOT for everyone. In addition, when you compare the cost of eyelash transplantation to eyelash extensions, eyelash transplantation is less expensive in the long-run. No More False Eyelashes {Luxist}

Oct 30th 2006 1:05PM Actually, I am familiar with Jan's product and it does seem to work very well, perhaps by prolonging the growth phase of the lash follicles. In fact, we prescribe the product here at Bauman Medical Group. However, it only seems to lengthen the existing lashes and it needs to be used every day. Jan's product costs about $160 per bottle. If lashes have been damaged by trauma (accidents or hair-pulling conditions), then you are likely to still need eyelash transplantation. Keep in mind also that once the transplant is completed, the results are permanent and the lashes will only need to be trimmed and curled. A number of people who used Jan's product have already come in for the eyelash transplant procedure to increase the number of lashes in their eyelids. It's kind of like using Rogaine plus hair transplantation--using one does not negate the other. In fact, the results are multiplied when you use both the medication and the procedure together.
For before and after photos of eyelash transplantation procedures, visit http://www.eyelash-transplant.com. There are examples of cosmetic and reconstructive eyelash transplant procedures as well as some patient videos.
